Kay and Olson continue winning streaks at Davenport Speedway

DAVENPORT, Ia. (July 10) – Drivers captured their first, second, third, fourth, and fifth feature wins of the 2015 season at the Davenport Speedway Friday. The evening was capped off by Powder Puff  races.

Justin Kay captured his fifth straight feature win in the Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model main. It wasn’t an easy win.

Mike Zemo Jr. jumped out to the early race lead from the pole position. Zemo held off Brunson Behning throughout the first half of the race and slowly started to pull away. Kay finally reeled in Zemo in the closing laps and took the lead coming to the white flag. The victory was Kay’s fifth in five starts this season.

Brunson Behning passed Zemo on the final lap for second, as Zemo incurred a broken gear, finishing third. Jay Johnson and Matt Ryan completed the top five.  Kay, Todd Malmstrom, and Jay Chenoweth were late model heat winners.

Rich Smith scored win number one in the Milan Heating & Air IMCA Modified feature. Smith started third and passed Ben Chapman on lap six for the lead. On the following lap, the two leaders and Joe Beal would collide in turn two, with Chapman ending up on the hook.

Smith continued on to take the win over Beal and Bob Dominacki. Bruce Hanford and Matt Werner each won a consi and finished fourth and fifth respectively.

Modified wins went to Smith, Bob Dominacki, and Nick Hixson.

The Koehler Electric Street Stocks again provided plenty of action, most of it on lap three. Randy Lamar’s car got bounced off a tire barrier and was airborne as it came back on the track and was struck by the car of Keith Blum. Both drivers were able to walk away from the incident.

When the racing resumed, Cary Brown passed Donnie Louck on lap five and led the rest of the way to his second win of the season. Perry Gellerstedt started one spot behind Brown and would finish the same way. Louck would hold on for a third place finish, followed by Nick Claussen and Jesse Owen.

Tony Olson notched win number four in the Hawkeye Auto IMCA SportMod feature. Olson went from tenth starting position to first in less than two laps. Olson had a full straightaway lead by lap five and cruised the rest of the way to the win.

Dustin Crear was best of the rest, finishing second. Bryce Garnhart took third ahead of Phil Anderson and Jake Morris.

Brandon Dahl collected his third feature win of the point season in the Roto-Rooter 4-Stock division. Brandon got the lead from his brother Zach, who dropped out with radiator problems. Brandon took the win, with second going to Andy Loy. Luke Benischek finished third, with Brandon Setser and Allen Morris rounding out the top five.

Powder Puff race winners were Reagan Setser (4-Stock), Sandy Lamar (Street Stock), MacKenzie Sterner (SportMod), and Lea Guldenpfennig (Modified).

Next Friday, July 17th, the weekly racing program at the Davenport Speedway will be joined by the Midwest Jalopies.
