First-Career, Southern All Star Win Scored by Bub McCool

by Ben Shelton
VICKSBURG, MS (July 21) – Bub McCool continued his banner season behind the wheel of his McCool Logging #57J RBT Motorsports/Club 29 Race Car/Jay Dickens Racing Engine Super Late Model by scoring the $10,000 victory in the 12th Annual Governor’s Cup at Magnolia Motor Speedway.

Bub McCool traveled to Magnolia Motor Speedway (Columbus, Mississippi) on Friday to compete in the two-day event hosted by the Southern All Stars (SAS) Late Model Series. In a field of 39 Super Late Models, Bub topped Chad Thrash in his heat race, earning a spot for the $10,000 to win feature event on Saturday. The 3rd starting McCool worked his way into the lead late in the race after a tight battle with Randy Weaver, en route to winning his first-career Southern All Stars Series feature. McCool recorded his 7th win of the season with Randy Weaver, Wendell Wallace, Scott Dedwylder, and Billy Moyer Jr. completing the top five.

“Randy (Weaver) had a great car the whole race, but my car just kept getting better and we were finally able to pass him in the last few laps,” said McCool. “This season has just been amazing so far. It seems like we are getting better and better every night. I want to thank Randy Thompson, my sponsors, my crew, and my great fans for their support.”

This weekend, July 24th-25th, Bub will travel to the familiar confines of Greenville Speedway (Greenville, Mississippi) for a pair of events. On Friday evening the COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS) Super Late Models will sanction a $2,000-to-win event, while Saturday night will see the Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series (MSCCS) Super Late Models rolling into town for a $2,500-to-win program.
