Ryan scores third Late Model win at Davenport Speedway

DAVENPORT, Ia. (August 28) – Friday was Season Championship night, at the Davenport Speedway. With all five 2015 track championships still on the line and the threat of rain, it made for an intense night of racing action.

Matt Ryan capped off his season with a win in the Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model feature. After starting on the pole, Ryan led all twenty-five laps. Matt was able to hold off Justin Kay throughout the final fifteen laps to clinch his third win of the season. Andy Nezworski finished a distant third, followed by Brunson Behning and Chuck Hanna.  Nezworski and Ryan each won a late model heat race.

Tony VonDresky used his front row starting spot to capture his third feature win of the season in the Milan Heating & Air IMCA Modified division. A couple of caution flags would bring the field back to VonDresky’s rear bumper, but on each restart, Tony would sprint back out to the lead. Matt Werner took second, with Mitch Morris finishing third. Point leader Bruce Hanford came home in fourth, followed by Bob Dominacki.

Nick Claussen raced to victory number two in the Koehler Electric Street Stock main. Claussen vaulted into the lead just past the midway point of the fifteen lap race. Donnie Louck ran the high side to a second place finish. Point leader Perry Gellerstedt led early in the race and finished third. Jesse Owen and Phil Anderson completed the top five.

Tony Olson posted win number seven of the season in Hawkeye Auto IMCA SportMod action. Bryce Garnhart made a late race move to pass Olson, but would finish second. A handful of yellows would scramble the rest of the field. Jarrett Franzen took third, while Dustin Crear and Jeff Johnson rounded out the top five.

The Dahl brothers battled it out once again in the Roto-Rooter 4-Stock feature. This time it was this Zach Dahl getting his third win of the season. Brandon Dahl finished second. Brandon Setser, Jeff Powell, and Andy Loy finished third through fifth in that order.

The rains held off long enough to get in the Mechanic Races. The winners were 4-Stock - Sean Fersch,  Street Stock - Joe Claussen,  Sport Mod - Luke Warmwater, Modified - Troy Rentfro,  and Late Model - Russell Engeland.

The official 2015 final point standings will be released early next week.

The next event at the Davenport Speedway will be the Diercks Iowa Governor’s Cup, September 11th &12th.
