Jared Landers Wins Tribute to Don and Billie Gibson; Tazewell and Florence Next

by Ben Shelton
BATESVILLE, Arkansas (June 1) - Jared Landers registered his first triumph of 2016 over the Memorial Day weekend in his Crop Production Services #777 Mark Martin Automotive/Sweet Bloomquist/Durham Racing Engine Super Late Model. The victory came in the second round of the 24th Annual Lucas Oil Show Me 100 at Lucas Oil Speedway.

Jared Landers and the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) invaded Lucas Oil Speedway (Wheatland, Missouri) on Thursday night to compete in the annual Cowboy Classic, which served as the opening round of the 24th Annual Lucas Oil Show Me 100. In a stacked field of 57-entries, Landers earned the 3rd-starting spot for his heat after timing in 7th fastest in his group. Cruising to a heat race win, Jared started on the pole for the $6,000-to-win feature. Running in 2nd on lap-2, Landers brought out a caution after getting turned around in turn-2. With slight damage to his mount Jared rejoined the tail of the field before registering a 22nd-place finish.

On Friday night in a field of 56-cars, Jared had redemption from the night before on his mind. He improved one position in his heat, capturing a heat race win. Earning the pole position for the feature, which payed honor to Don and Billie Gibson, Landers swapped in and out for the lead early in the event. Grabbing the lead for good on lap-10, Jared Landers went on to secure his first victory of the season with Scott Bloomquist, Tim McCreadie, Jimmy Owens, and Steve Francis rounding out the top five. Landers was awarded a $6,000 payday for his win in the 40-lap A-Main.

Wrapping up the Memorial Day weekend on Saturday, Jared Landers locked into the 5th-starting position for the 24th Annual Show-Me 100 finale via preliminary points from the previous two nights. Battling in the Top-5 early on, Jared slipped by race leader Jonathan Davenport on lap 45. Following a slip-up on lap 53, Landers pulled off seven laps later with a busted radiator, logging a 16th-place outing.

“Man, this weekend had no shortage of ups and downs,” Landers said with a smile. “Thursday night I got a little too aggressive early in the feature and it bit me. Then on Friday night we had a great car and got the win. I really think we had a car to win Saturday night, but that track was so tough, and I just misjudged one lap. That’s all it took to knock the radiator out, and we were done.”

He concluded by saying, “The positive from the weekend is that our team just keeps getting better and better. I want to thank my team, my sponsors, and my fans for their constant support. Hopefully this was the first of many wins to come this year.”

Jared remains in third in the latest LOLMDS point standings. Full results from the weekend are available at www.LucasDirt.com .

Up next for the Batesville, Arkansas-pilot is a LOLMDS doubleheader in Tennessee and Kentucky on June 3-4. Friday night will take the team to Tazewell Speedway (Tazewell, Tennessee) for a $10,000-to-win affair, while Saturday night will see the team in action at Florence Speedway (Union, Kentucky) in the $30,000-to-win, 30th Annual Ralph Latham Memorial.
