Dustin Strand Grabs Greenbush Cash for 3rd Win of 2016

by Ben Shelton
GRAND FORKS, North Dakota (June 9) – Dustin Strand raced to the Modified victory on Saturday night in his RealTruck.com #71 Q&Z Plumbing & Heating/Millenium Race Car at Greenbush Race Park. The third triumph of the year for Strand had a little, extra-special meaning.

“Not only did I win, but dad jumped in my backup car and finished 2nd,” Dustin noted with a big smile. “It’s been a while since we raced together, so to get a 1-2 finish was really something special for both of us.”

On Thursday night Dustin Strand made his first trip of the season to Norman County Raceway (Ada, Minnesota) to compete in the IMCA Modified division. In a field of 21-cars, Strand gained one spot in his heat, capturing a heat race victory. Earning the 3rd-starting position for the feature, Dustin again advanced one spot notching a runner-up finish behind race winner, Austin Arneson with Cale Arneson, Rob Vanmil, and Michael Johnson rounding out the top five.

With the weather cancelling his plans on Friday night, Strand returned to action on Saturday night traveling to Greenbush Race Park (Greenbush, Minnesota) for another first for the season. Competing in the Modified division along with his dad, Brian, both drivers scored heat race wins setting them up with solid starting positions for the feature. Working his way to the front, Dustin Strand soared to his third victory of the season with his father following him with an impressive 2nd-place finish.

On Friday evening he will compete in a Weekly Racing Series Event at River Cities Speedway (Grand Forks, North Dakota) before traveling to Jamestown Speedway (Jamestown, North Dakota) on Saturday evening for the opening round of the 2016 Northern Late Model Racing Association (NLRA) campaign.
