Marvin Winters & Kyle Lee Take Cash In Dirt Capitol’s Topless Events
Hagerstown Speedway HAGERSTOWN, MD (August 6) - Hot and humid but unable to put the tops down on their racers, Marvin Winters (Super Late Models) and Kyle Lee (Late Model Sportsman) took the tops off for the Ernie’s D’s Auction Topless events as each later ended victorious in Saturday’s Hagerstown Speedway/Dirt Capitol events. For Winters, of McConnellsburg, PA, it was his first triumph since October’s Fall Bash and worth $2,500 while it was the season’s third win for Mercersburg, PA’s Lee who earned $1,000.
C.S. Fitzgerald began on the point after setting group one fast time and later winning the first heat race. He took off and led until the eighth lap when second heat winner Winters got a good run around the high side of the second turn to take command. Winters kept the pace and took it all the way to checkered.
Fitzgerald later succumbed to Keith Jackson who took over the runner up spot and gave chase to Winters but settled for second with Fitzgerald ending third. Gary Stuhler and Kyle Hardy completed the top five.
“I have to thank my team,” Winters said. “We never gave up. The track was extremely racy tonight and we made the right adjustments.”
CS Fitzgerald, DJ Myers and Matt Cosner were the group fast timers while Fitzgerald, Winters and Jackson won the heat races.
The Cochran Auctioneers Late Model Sportsman event was more than worth the price of admission as four time winner Justin Weaver and two time winner Kyle Lee were the show.
Weaver charged into the lead and led the first 23 laps with fourth starting Lee into second as the two battled side by side most of the race and into lapped traffic. Lee had a good view of what was happening and when he saw a hole open on the inside with two laps to go, there was no choice but to try and Lee’s effort paid off.
Weaver came home second followed by Alan Sagi, Kyle Lear and D.J. Myer.
“Weaver hit his marks perfect each and every lap,” Lee said. “He is a great driver. We have worked so hard this week. I am very lucky to have great equipment. My Dad and Uncle Dougie (Timmons) make this happen.”
Chris Ebersole continued his dominance in the Pure Stocks as he posted his seventh win over point leader Craig Parrill.
Point leader Dylan Rutherford was victorious for the second time this season in the Mason Dixon Auto Auctions Hobby Stocks.
Rick Hulson dominated the EMod feature and scored his second straight win in the division while Fred Cullen won over the All American Outlaws field.
