Leonard Last Lap Pass Nets NCRA Late Model Victory by David Smith Jr Mayetta, Kansas – August 2, 2016 - With the help of a late race caution, Dusty Leonard snuck past race leader Chris Kratzer to win an exciting National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Precise Racing Products crate late model feature Saturday night at Thunder Hill Speedway in Mayetta, Kansas.
Leonard and Kratzer started on the front row for the twenty-five lap feature with Kratzer leading the majority of the event. With just three laps remaining in the feature finale, the night’s final caution fell setting up a three lap dash for the checkered flag.
Kratzer, the current series points leader coming into the night, looked to be on his way to his second feature victory of the season. But Leonard had other plans and passed Kratzer on the last lap and barely beat Kratzer to the line to pick up his first feature victory of the season.
Lyle Shepard, who came into the night second in the point standings and five feature victories on the season, came home third, followed by Delbert Smith and Jeremy Bishop.
The two, eight lap heat races for the sixteen car field were won by Shepard and Leonard.
Next up for the NCRA crate late models will be a trip to the Belleville High Banks in Belleville, Kansas next Saturday night, August 27.
