Clash Media MADISON, N.C. (August 29) - In what proved to be one of the closest finishes this season, it was the #2 of Dennis Franklin coming away with the win in the 40 lap, $4,000 to win main event at 311 Fastrack in Madison, NC. It was Dennis Franklin's third victory of the season with the Clash and his first victory of the season in his new Hamrick's of Gaffney sponsored Bloomquist Chassis.
When the green flag flew on the 40 lap main event, it was the #20 of Dan Breuer jumping out to the early lead followed by the #1w of Ricky Weeks. Weeks would make his move on lap 12 coming down the backstretch as he passed Breuer on the inside. On lap 15, the caution was brought out when the #18m of Jeff Smith stopped on the frontstretch with a broken rear end. He went pitside and was unable to continue. Weeks was able to fend off the hard charges of the rest of the field through another four more cautions but on lap 37, Dennis Franklin made his move. The front three cars of Franklin, Weeks, and the #22 of Chris Ferguson all had encountered lap traffic and this caused them all to bunch up, they were so close together that you could throw a blanket over them. While racing around the lapped cars, Franklin made his move past Weeks and this also opened the door for Ferguson to pass Weeks as well. For the final two laps, the front three cars battled nose to tail and sometimes side by side for the top spot but when all was said and done it was Dennis Franklin coming out on top.
Setting fast time during qualifying was Ricky Weeks with a lap of 16.600. Second was Dan Breuer and then the #3 of Austin Dillion in third. Fourth fastest was the #21of Luke Roffers and Dennis Franklin would round out your top 5 fastest cars after qualifying.
Donald Bradsher in his #93 machine led flag to flag in the first heat race to take home the win. He was followed by the #23 of Ronnie Hoover in second, the #5 of Scott Neighbors in third, the #00 of Jay Sessoms in fourth, the #D8 Dustin Mitchell in fifth, and rounding out your top six qualifying cars was the #6 of Randle Chupp.
The second heat race saw a very scary wreck happen on the start. Ross Bailes in his #87 machine spun in turn two making contact with the #15 of Jimmy McCormick, the contact sent McCormick's car spinning like a top into the inside wall. His car made hard contact with the wall and his car went airborn and he ended up sitting on top of the six foot high catch fence on the inside of turn 2. Both drivers were able to walk away but McCormick's night was over, Bailes was able to continue. When the race resumed it was the #17 of Tim Allen taking the lead and he wouldn't give it up, leading flag to flag. Coming in a close second was the #44 of Justin Labonte, followed by the #10K of Chris Knight in third, the #360 of Craig Shuffield in fourth, Ross Bailes in fifth, and sixth was the #32 of Larry Blankenship.
The main event field was set by the fastest 10 qualifiers followed by the top 6 transfer cars from both heat races and two point provisionals that were giving to Randy Harmon and Thomas Poole.
