MONETT, Mo. (April 20) - The Monett Speedway hosted the 1st ever DLRA event Sunday night.

The DLRA 40 lap feature had Rusty Dukes and Will Vaught sitting on the front row, earning their positions using the passing point system. When they took the green flag Vaught took the early lead, clearing Dukes in the 1st corner. Al Purkey took the 2nd spot from Dukes on lap 4 with his sights on the leader. Dukes starts to fade as Jackson, Payne, and Brad Looney all get by. The caution waved on lap 9 for rookie driver Chance Hines sitting in turn 4. On the restart Vaught continued to hold his lead with Purkey trying to find a way around. Payne got high in turn 4 giving Looney the 4th spot, Jackson holding strong in 3rd. Purkey took the advantage from Vaught using the high groove only to have the red flag wave, putting Vaught back in the top spot. Green flag action saw Purkey shoot to the outside taking the lead once again, as Vaught had his hands full on the bottom, with Payne. On lap 26 Jackson pulled to the infield, giving up his 4th spot to Terry Phillips. Purkey continued to use the high groove taking home the 1st DLRA event. Vaught held off Payne for 2nd, Phillips 4th, and Looney 5th. Justin Wells picked up the G and G Dozer Hard Charger award finishing 8th. Gary Gorby received the Wheeler Metals Hard Luck award.

Corey Pope picked up his 1st win of the season in the bomber class. George Meyer in the Factory Stocks, and Chad Williams in the Rookie class.

Next week weekly racing will resume. Mark your calendars for May 4th, when the World Of Outlaw Late Models make their 1st appearance at the Monett Speedway.
