Jason Shank YORK HAVEN, Penn. (April 22) - Barry Klinedinst Motorsports and the Back-to-Back (2006/2007) Mid-Atlantic Championship Series (MACS) Champion Jason Covert went World of Outlaws Late Model Series racing at Bill Sawyer's Virginia Motor Speedway on Friday, April 11th. After a solid night at VMS, the BK Motorsports team opened the 2008 MACS tour on Saturday, April 12th in Cumberland, MD for the running of the 'Western Maryland Open 50' at 'The Rock' Allegany County Speedway. The following weekend Covert ended up at Hagerstown Speedway in Hagerstown, MD on Friday, April 18th and Winchester Speedway in Winchester, VA on Saturday, April 19th for the first weekend of the Hagerstown/Winchester Shootout.
Covert went into the World of Outlaws Late Model Series sanctioned 'Rumble on the River 4' with a bit of momentum at the Jamaica, VA oval. After winning the $10,000 to win MACS sanctioned 'USA 100' in 2007, Jason felt he had as good as chance as anyone to go out and beat the Outlaws. Covert set the 10th quickest time of the evening and transferred to the A-Main by virtue of his third place finish in his heat. Jason started the 'A' in the 10th spot but didn't make much noise during the 50 lap event finishing 13th. "The car was good, we just went the wrong way on tires," Covert continued, "We're a little disappointed with 13th but with the new clay they laid down here, our old notes (setups) weren't much help. Now we have something to go off of the next time we come here."
The next night at 'The Rock' Allegany County Speedway Jason timed in 9th overall during time trials and won his heat. Covert started the MACS sanctioned event 9th and battled with WoO regular Shannon Babb for much of the 50 lap event and came home eighth in the Series opener. "I had a lot of fun out there racing Babb," commented Jason, "But those guys out front were really moving, I don't think any of us (in the middle of the pack) could have caught them."
The following weekend was the first weekend of the Hagerstown/Winchester Shootout. Hagerstown Speedway was up first on Friday with Covert finishing a solid fifth behind race winner Gary Stuhler, Tommy Armel, Andy Anderson, and Mike Atherton. On Saturday it was down to the Winchester Speedway for the BK Motorsports team. Jason was able to finish the event third after running second for a good portion of the event.
This weekend the team will head to Bedford Speedway for the Lucas Oil Late Model Series sanctioned Bedford Valley Petroleum sponsored "Paul Beamer Memorial" paying $7,000 to win, and then make their way south to Hagerstown Speedway for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series sanctioned 27th Annual "Stanley Schetrompf Memorial" that will pay $10,000 to the winner.
