CLEVELAND, Tenn. (June 7) - It was a top flight for Chattanooga, TN racer Randy Burrows, who used the high line around the 1/3 mile clay banked Cleveland Speedway dirt track Saturday night and held off strong challenges for his 3rd win of the season. Adding to his 2008 resume that totals four wins for the Alive # 95 'ParkerStore, Custom Counters & Display, AllState Larry Burrows, Southern Fluidpower' sponsored GRT / Race Engine Design powered, Pontiac GTO raceteam's season, BIG DADDY cruised to a flag to flag win in the 30 lap 'A' Main feature. Burrows was out qualified not only by one competitor but two, as Ringgold, GA's, NEW KID ON THE BLOCK Cody Barnett set fast time of the nights thirteen (13) Super Late Models. Burrows was in the 'cat-birds' seat for the first of two heat races on the outside pole as the nights 3rd overall qualifier. Burrows won from the outside as Barnett fell with mechanical problems. Heat # 2 saw again the high groove work as Shawn Reece defeated second fast qualifier Jason Welshan for the outside FRONT ROW JOE starting spot.

With Reece looking for his career first SLM victory, Burrows roared to green and quickly into the lead. SHORTY Keith Frazier looped his machine in turn one, rearing a yellow before a lap could be scored. Quick service from his raceteam, got a new Hoosier mounted on his left rear, before the field realigned for the restart. Again green waved over the field with Burrows taking off from the FIREDOG. Frazier slipped under Reece for 2nd as well, as Welshan and Jeff Franklin tagged an early top 5. Reigning track champion Paul Tims was back in action and heading towards the front, using the Cleveland Speedway 'old-school' line on the bottom. Lamar Scoggins too, a product of the old ways, began picking off competitors just behind Tims. The duo worked into the top 5, by lap 6 as Reece fell back. By lap 8, Burrows had worked into a half of a straight-away lead over Frazier, but all that would change as debris reset the field on lap 11. Bobby Mayse ended his night on the restart when he collected, Nick Yancy in turn 1. Welshan's run would come to an end just before the halfway point, while he was running 6th.

After a caution for Franklin, Frazier began digging deep under Burrows as Tims and Scoggins were spoiler surfin' the runner-up. Frazier could size-up Burrows heading into the corners but upon exit BIG DADDY was too powerful as he extended his lead. Reece kept true to his top flight, following Burrows lead, but Brad Coffey, sportin' a new ride keep the pressure on in the closing laps. You could throw a blanket, over Frazier, Tims and Scoggins as Burrows eyed the white flag with a comfortable lead. Coffey was in the top 5, as Yancy and brother-in-law Dewayne Powell were able to pass a frailing Reece, who, despite finishing 8th at the conclusion, put up his best ever SLM run. Burrows comfortable victory was followed by a straight-away distance to second with Frazier holding off a dicing Tims and Scoggins. Coffey rounded out the top 5 finishers.

In other racing action: the A-Hobby feature again went to Tanner Works, while Patrick Harvey again dominated the B-Hobby class. Danny Burnette took his 2nd consecutive Pony Feature, with Billy Bailey again topping the Front Wheel Drive division. In the special $1,000. to-Win LLM/Crate Mid-Season Championship a new winner emerged from one of the best races ever witnessed in the class. Glen Seaton III notched his 1st win of the season leading flag to flag the 25 lap 'A' Main feature. PEEBO in his # 92 'Mayo Racing Components, Liberty Plumbing' sponsored GRT racecar held off last weeks winner Rick Hixson and former track champion LIL' John Owenby. The event saw an amazing display of side by side/ wheel to wheel racing for most of the 'A' Main feature. Brian Jackson and Craig Burrows rounded out the top 5 finishers of the 22 car stout field. The special wheelbarrow race was won by the team of Derek Forgey and Mathew Todd.
