Bob Appleget CLEVELAND, Tenn. (July 22) - Ray Cook will bring his Southern Thunder Series to Cleveland Speedway this Thursday night. The 10 races series visits 10 different race tracks in 13 days with Cleveland being the eighth stop on the tour.
With six of the 10 events in the books Chris Madden and Dennis "Rambo" Franklin each have three wins. With last nights win at Green Valley Speedway Franklin takes a slim lead in the series points.
"We have supported Ray's (Cook) series from the beginning and the racing has always been good," said Cleveland promoter Monty Morrow. "Madden and Rambo have had things pretty much their own way so far, but they will have their work cut out for them at Cleveland on Thursday night. Our guys can run with the best of them."
The $3,500 to win event will pay $450 to start the 35 lap event will attract not only a number of travelers, but the best that the Tri-State area has to offer. Teams from North and South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama and East Tennessee are all looking for some mid-week racing action. Also on the card will be Limited/Crate Late Models and the Pony division running for bigger purses. The Limited/Crates will pay $1,000 to win and the Ponies will be running for $500 to win.
Pits will open at 4 pm and the grandstands at 5pm with racing starting at 7:30. Adult grandstand tickets are $17, kids 6-11 are $3 and under six are free. The pits will be $30.
