CARPENTER CLAIMS SECOND AMRA LATE MODEL MAIN EVENT VICTORY AT SKYLINE SPEEDWAY

Skyline Speedway
STEWART, Ohio (May 7) - Rocket Man Chris Carpenter, South Parkersburg ran down early leader Chris Garnes on the 14th lap and went on to claim the 25 lap AMRA Late Model main at Billy Jarrell's Skyline Speedway. Danny Smith, Chillicothe, Ohio claimed his second Ohio Valley Sprint Car Association win over Jimmy Nier, while Ryan Wilson. Marietta, Ohio claimed perhaps the biggest win of his career in the $800 to win "V-8 Classic" Pure Stock Invitation. Torrential rains wiped out the AMRA modified and FWD Four Cylinder features.

In the Late Model main Chris Carpenter, South Parkersburg ran down early leader Chris Garnes on the 14th lap and went on to claim the 25 lap AMRA Late Model main over yet another star studded field. Garnes got the jump on outside pole sitter Travis Brooker as the latter filed into second until Carpenter took the runner-up slot on lap five. Larry Bond had yet another great run to third, but the main action saw 12th place starter Freddie Carpenter charger from 12th to 4th place.

If Carpenter's wall glazing charge wasn't enough K.C. Burdette burst from 15th to 6th to claim Hard Charger honors in another great run. Veteran Audie Swartz, the 2009 Champ, held steady for a solid top five while Dan Morrison, Nic Corbitt, and Roy Roush battled hard for top ten finishes. Rounding out the top ten were Carpenter, Chris Garnes, Larry Bond, Freddie Carpenter, Swartz, Burdette, Brookover, Morrison, Corbitt, and Roy Roush.

No Late Models May 14. The race will also be a "Gene Adkins Tribute" night for the Portland, Ohio driver.

A strong field of cars turned out for the Pure Stock Invitational. Ryan Wilson was 'fast and furious', not that he expressed any road-rage, but his aggressively smooth driving style of attack brought home his biggest feature win. Wilson pulled Blake on the start, but Blake held close for several laps, before Murphy challenged for second. Wilson gained some breathing room

Behind Wilson, were Blake, Murphy, Robbie McCullough, Rick VanDyne, Jeff Fordyce, Barry Brisker, Levi Woods, Gary Gould, Mike Wolford. Robbie McCullough was the hard-charger of the race with a 15th to 4th place run. The charge was one of the best of the evening. Todd Fordyce also had a great 17th to 7th run, advancing ten positions. Also Rick Vandyne recovered from an early spin, kept the car rolling and blitzed to fifth place.

A pre-Midnight rain slowed the action at Skyline Speedway Friday night, relatively speaking. When the track was run in for the Sprint and Late Model features it was lightening fast. After about an hour-ten minute delay the sprint cars hit the track where Danny Smith, the former Danville, IN ace blitzed the field in high flying fashion.

On the first lap, up-and-coming rookie driver Andre Layfield clipped another car, jumped the cushion and went headlong into the concrete fence. The impact initiated a series of three roll-overs and inducted the uninjured Layfield into the "roll-over club." The race resumed as Smith got the jump on Dave Dickson who stuck with Smith for a few laps. Dickson held second to lap nine as Smith pulled away. Jimmy Nier took over second from a 8th place start and tried to reel in Smith.

Smith was again the master of the 3/8 mile red clay oval, blitzing to his second OVSCA win in the last 3 weeks.

Roudning out the top ten were Smith, Nier, Jimmy Stinson, Aaron Higgins, Dave Dickson , Mitchell Harble, Kory Crabtree, Charlie Fisher, Josh Davis, and Eddie Slone. Aaron Higgins was hard charger of the race with a 16th to 4th place run.

Will Holland claimed the Mini-wedge main over Jason Gillian. Rounding out the top ten were behind Holland and Gillian were Coleman Evans, Cameron Roush, Abby White, Martin Gibson Jr., Samantha Roush, and Darryl Murphy.

Skyline Speedway continues action next Friday night. For further information visit www.skylinespeedway.net or call 304-539-4410 or the track phone at 740-662-4111.
