PERRIS, Calif. (April 5) - "Kid Harley" Nick Bartels became the fifth different Extreme Late Model main event winner in five races in 2008 at Perris Auto Speedway on Saturday night. Bartels defeated Johnny "Lightning" Malcolm and his grandfather Bill Bartels in the 25 lap main event.

The first action in the main event took place on the pace lap. Ron Meyer (Anaheim Hills, CA) broke and lost a left rear wheel as the field began to pick up the pace off turn two. Fortunately for Meyer, who is second in points, his crew quickly put on a new wheel and he was able to start the 25 lap main at the back.

"Kid Harley" actually got a break in the pits before the main event began. Unfortunately, it came at the expense of his father Ron Bartels (Hawthorne, CA). Slated to start on the inside of the fourth row, he moved up one spot when his dad, who was the pole sitter, had to jump into Russ Wernimont's car when his own encountered problems in the heat race and had he had to start at the back.

The first few laps of the race featured a battle between Bill Bartels (Marina Del Rey, CA) and his teammate Carla Laney (Torrance, CA). However, it quickly became a crowd pleasing side-by-side battle between grandfather Bill and grandson Nick. On lap nine, youth was served and Nick took the lead for good.

While grandfather and grandson raced hard at the point, there was tremendous battle going on for the third place spot that featured Mike Kirby (Torrance, CA), series point leader Jeff Dunham (Murrieta, CA), John Crow (Fullerton, CA) and Malcolm (Corona, CA), who starter eighth. After a hard fought battle, the smooth driving Malcolm asserted himself and set his sights on the family duo at the head of the pack.

"Kid Harley", a college student from El Segundo, California, pulled away from his Grandpa while Malcolm closed in on the second place driver. A lap 20 caution put the top three nose to tail for the restart and Malcolm, who was coming off a career best fifth place finish, picked off Bill Bartels for second on lap 23. The 19-year old set his sights on Nick Bartels and the win, but there was no passing "Kid Harley" who took his first PASSCAR win of 2008. Dunham and Meyer chased to the lead trio across the line to round out the top five.

The "Perris Terrorist" Dino Napier (Corona, CA) paced the 13-car field with a lap of 18.782 in qualifying. Bill Bartels won the first heat over Dunham and Kirby with Malcolm beating Crow and Laney to the checkered in heat race two.

Tyson "The Bomber" Talkington (Fontana, CA) won the make up main event in the MC Builders Super Stock class. It was the second ever win at the track for the sometime Motocross rider who dedicated the victory to his ailing Grandpa. Ed Perry (Carpinteria, CA) and Chad Jones (Temecula, CA), a former Late Model and Sprint Car driver, drove Jerry & Pam Dodd owned cars to second and third.

In the regular Super Stock main, Trona, California's Chris Smith walked away from the field for his second win in three 2008 starts at The PAS. Perry and Talkington finished second and third.

Romoland, California's Chris Thompson scored his first ever win in the crash filled make up main event for the Street Stocks ahead of Carl Greene (Winchester, CA) and rising star Tommy "Thunder" Malcolm (Corona, CA). In the regular main event, defending series champion Curtis Dietzsch (Moreno Valley, CA) took the lead late in the race when Malcolm's car gave up the ghost while leading. Perris, California "Big Jake" Everhart and Greene finished second and third.

Roger Young of San Bernardino, California easily outdistanced the field for his first ever PAS win in the Pick-A-Part Factory Stocks. Warren Bates (Oak Hills, CA) and Ron Davis (Norwalk, CA) were a distant second and third.
