Kelly Carlton BRUNSWICK, Ga. (September 27) - Casey Roberts completed a dominating weekend performance at the Golden Isles Speedway on Saturday night. Roberts, of Toccoa, Georgia, set fast time and then led every lap en route to a $5000 O'Reilly Southern All Star Racing Series victory. Roberts also captured the Friday night $3000 to win O'Reilly Southern All Stars East event allowing the soft spoken Georgian to dominate the "Battle of Brunswick".
Roberts had to hold off a hard charging Randle Chupp to take the win. Chupp, who started twelfth, broke into the top five just before the halfway point and overtook Jeremy Faircloth for second just a few laps later. Chupp averted disaster late in the event when he nearly spun in turn four. Chupp righted his machine and cut through the infield to return to action but he fell back to fourth.
Chupp, however was undaunted as he moved back by Dillon Wood two laps later for third. Chupp then went to work on Jeremy Faircloth for second. Chupp worked the high groove and pulled even with Faircloth. But Faircloth battled back on the bottom and pulled back up in front of Chupp. But Faircloth bobbled slightly off of turn four causing contact between the two. Chupp once again rallied and moved by Faircloth for second.
Chupp had one last chance to make a run at Roberts for the lead when Lee Sutton went for a solo spin in turn two. Roberts had to take evasive action as he was right behind Sutton at the time of the spin. Chupp had a clear shot with the field set for a single file restart. But when the green flag waved, Roberts drove away leaving Chupp to battle it out with Faircloth. Chupp held on for second with Faircloth third, Wood fourth and Shane Riner fifth.
"We just had a great car all weekend long. Our Randy Clary Engine was awesome. And we have really gotten off to a good start with this new Victory Circle car." Roberts said after the race. "I knew Randle was coming there late in the race. When we had that restart and I heard them tell him to commit high or low I knew he had really come through the field and we would have to run hard to hold him off. But we were able to do it."
Defending O'Reilly Southern All Stars Champion and current point leader Ivedent Lloyd suffered engine problems after hot laps. It appeared that his night was over before it even started. But in a great display of sportsmanship Lloyd's closest rival in the points chase, Jason Fitzgerald, offered Lloyd the use of his M&M Transport / Tire Kingdom back-up ride. Lloyd drove the #7 machine to a tenth place finish and extended his points lead over Fitzgerald.
Casey Roberts winning Victory Circle M1 by Moyer Chassis is powered by a Randy Clary Racing Engine. Roberts' #101 machine has sponsorship from Cushman Paint and Body, Starrette Trucking, Sid's Trim and Fit, Concept Graphics, PPM Racing Products, Simpson, Schaeffer Racing Oils and Wa-Don Bert Transmission.
