Michael Nuchols MARYVILLE, Tenn. (June 6) - With $5,000.00 on the line in the much anticipated O'Reilly Southern All Stars super late model feature, a huge sun drenched crowd was on hand to witness on of the most intense finishes in recent history. Crossville native Randy Weaver set fast time to start on the pole with veteran Skip Arp on the outside. Arp darted around Weaver on the first lap and sailed off to a 5 car length advantage until Powell's Steve Smith lost a tire on lap 18 bringing out the first caution. This would close up the large field once again enabling Weaver to start on Arp's rear bumper. Again, Arp sped off to a large lead working through lap traffic. Late in the event with 10 laps remaining, Weaver began to make up some time quickly gaining on Arp as the laps were winding down. With five laps to go, Weaver took a look on the outside of Arp to snag the lead but Arp slammed the door. Then, on lap 57 Weaver finally was able to sneak under Arp coming out of turn four and charge on to victory lane and grab the $5,000.00 prize. With a full moon hanging over the track, this eventually became the real "Dream" for the "Dream Weaver" Randy Weaver.
Arp had to settle for second and Joe Armes was third with "The Southern Gentleman" Freddy Smith in fourth. Blount County driver David Crabtree thrilled his local fans putting on a terrific show steaming home in fifth.
