ALPHA, Ky. (April 28) - The Southern Regional Racing Series, presented by PPM Racing Products, expanded their horizons on Saturday, as the Series ventured onto new turf, the bluegrass, in the state of Kentucky. When the fifty laps, at Clinton County Speedway, were completed, Brasstown, NC's Ray Cook had left a big Tarheel footprint, in the Kentucky clay.

In group qualifying, Cook, in the Arvil Cook Investments' Mastersbilt, grabbed the Star Grafix & Signs pole position award, with Decatur, AL's Brandon King taking the outside front row.

The race took four attempts to get underway, as Murfreesboro, TN's Tony Morris, Piedmont, AL's Ryan Law, and a six car pile-up, in turn four, all produced cautions, before a lap could be completed.

Cook went to the lead, after all the yellow flags were cleaned up, with King, Linden, TN's Eric Hickerson, Sparta's Perry Delaney and Raus, TN's Jay Brinkley, in hot pursuit The field was again brought under caution, when Sparta, TN's Michael Luna spun on the front stretch.

Cook continued to lead the pack around the quarter-mile, for the next thirteen circuits, when mechanical problems took Luna out, slowing the field, on lap twenty-seven. The top five remained the same. That's the way they would stay, until lap thirty-eight, when Baxter, TN's Junior Brown got together with Campbellsville KY's Jeff Watson. The spin also collected Morris, who was able to continue, finishing sixth. Watson wasn't as fortunate, and not very happy, as his top ten run was over.

At this point, it was Cook, King, who was giving Cook all he wanted for the lead, Hickerson, Brinkley, and Florence, AL's Byron Michael. Delaney had to leave the track, with a possible broken shock, after running fourth all night. He was having his best run in an S.R.R.S. event. From there, it was all green, as Cook raced, side-by-side, with King, leading him to the checkers, by a few car lengths. Hickerson, Brinkley, and Michael, followed them across the line. Cook collected $3000 for his efforts.
