PENTON, Ala. (May 2) - It was a night of different emotions, for a couple of Williams, at Penton Raceway (AL), on Friday night. The Southern Regional Racing Series, presented by PPM Racing Products, was in town, for a fifty lapper. Here in, lies the tale of two Williams.

William Thomas, Phenix City, AL, grabbed the Star Grafix Pole Award, in group qualifying, It was an impressive run for the twenty-one year-old Thomas, who a year earlier, had won the Fastrak National Championship. Thomas appeared to be on the fast track to take his first S.R.R.S. win, but as he exited turn four, after the four-wide salute to the fans, his car came to a stop on the front stretch, never to fire again.

That moved Florence, AL's Byron Michael to the point, who, himself, had won the 2007 S.R.R.S. Championship, Fayetteville, GA's Ricky Williams started alongside Michael, in his RSD Enterprises/SAE Parts Warehouse Rocket. This would be a good night for Williams.

As the green flag waved, Williams went to the helm, leading MIchael, Athen's, AL's Anthony Burroughs, Murfreesboro, TN's Tony Morris, and Ellenwood, GA's Mike Head, around the quarter-mile. Lap four saw the first yellow, when Rod Carroll, Steven Endicott, and Jason Hudson got together, in turn four. From there, the race would stay green, with the only change, a Burroughs' pass of Michael, to move to second.

On lap thirty, heavy lapped traffic became an issue, as Burroughs got crossed up in turn two, collecting Morris, and Linden, TN's Eric Hickerson. Lap thirty-five saw Sparta, TN's Mike Luna come to a stop, ending his night, and bringing out the last caution of the evening.

The last fifteen laps were caution-free, with Williams maintaining his dominance, for the win. Burroughs took second with Michael third. Morris and Head, rounded out the top five.

Official Results: 1)17 Ricky Williams, 2)121 Anthony Burroughs, 3)B17 Byron Michael, 4)M31 Tony Morris, 5)54 Mike Head, 6)53 Ray Cook, 7)14 Brandon King, 8)98 Eric Hickerson, 9)34 Chad Wallace, 10)01 Ben Kittrell, 11)01 Jay Brinkley, 12)K0 Kelly Hanvey, 13)S21 Shane Stodghil, 14)49 Dingus Griffin, 15)95 Jimmy Tucker, 16)0 Craig Scott, 17)44 Rod Carroll, 18)00 Steven Endicott, 19)25 Chad Marchman, 20)32 Mike Luna, 21)20 Ray McElhiney, 22) R1 Riley Hickman, 23)7 Jason Hudson, 24)22 William Thomas
