SWDRA PR
PHOENIX, Ariz. (June 28) - Southwest DIRTcar Late Model Series arrived at Manzanita Speedway Saturday night June 28 with some notable driver changes, Mark Fowler was out of town for business and Jeff Manka put modified champion Anthony Madrid in the 95 car. Other driver changes for Saturday night included, Keith Noyes replacing his dad, Wayne Noyes, modified driver, Jason Noll taking the wheel for Keith McKinney and Jerry Fincher piloting Randy Carder's crate car. Art Lacy, Troy Ruebke, Jeff Stafford, and Lee Hoy all made the show after long hiatus from racing.

At the start of the main, polesitter Randy Carder led the 20 car field and quickly jumped into the lead followed by Joey Moriarty, Lonnie Parker Jr, Tommy Hussak and Jerry Fincher. From his 9th place starting spot, Madrid had moved into the fifth position by lap 4. Lap 4 saw a red flag as Wes Hall and Lee Hoy made hard contact in turn 3, causing Hoy's car to flip wildly. The car came to rest upside down in turn 4 and the safety crew quickly arrived. Medics checked Hoy immediately - he was ok.

On the restart, lots of action behind Carder as cars jockeyed for position. After several lap, Madrid had maneuvered his way into the second spot and set his sights on Carder on lap 12. Parker Jr dropped out with driveshaft troubles and another caution came out for debris on the track. Carder led the race to the half-way point when he made a crucial error in turn 2 and Madrid was able to capitalize for the lead. Carder began to suffer from power steering problems as the race wore on. Madrid slowly began to pull away from Carder who was holding off challenges from Moriarty and Mike Tahtienen.

On lap 22 Madrid had stretched it out to a straight-away lead, while the rest of the field, Carder, Moriarty, Noyes and Williams raced for the second through 5th spots. Keith Noyes had moved up from 17th and Brad Williams was up from his last place starting position. The last few laps saw a great battle between Carder, Moriarty, Noyes and Williams.

At the finish it was all Anthony Madrid winning the 30 lap main event and the $2000.00 first place purse, followed by Carder, Moriarty, Noyes, Williams, Hussak, Parker Sr, Fincher, Tahtinen and Jason Noll rounding out the top 10.
