MARYVILLE, Tenn. (August 1) - Tommy Kerr drove the high side to hold off Randy Weaver in the early going and eventually Vic Hill to capture his first Thunder Series Win of 2009.

Rain throughout the region and an occasional sprinkle prompted track and series officials to push the show along and it paid off as approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the Thunder Series portion of the program it began to rain more steadily forcing the track to cancel a few local classes.

The event was slowed a total of seven times for cautions including two lone car spins by Tim Rucker (once in front of the leaders), four stalled cars including Mark Douglas (lap 5), Joe Armes (lap 19), Bobby Giffin (lap 30) and Billy Ogle Jr. (lap 35) and once for debris (lap 9). At each restart, Kerr held off Randy Weaver in the early going until lap 14 when Vic Hill was able to take second, relegating Weaver to third. Kerr would pull away by as many as five car lengths on each restart. Once five or six laps reeled off, Hill was able to run Kerr down and completed a pass once, only to have a caution wave before he could lead an official lap at the stripe. The final caution waved on lap thirty-five of the forty lap affair. Kerr ended up winning by about two car lengths as Hill simply ran out of time and laps. Weaver wound up finishing third, followed by a hard charging David Crabtree in fourth and Mark Vineyard rounded out the top five.

'This feels great in front of my hometown fans, especially these three right here (pointing to his wife and two small kids) and in this tough economy, looks like we had a good crowd tonight. After being on the road with the Southern National Series, I'm glad to finally get this Thunder Series win and hopefully we can try to sew up this championship sometime soon. I don't think the fastest car won because those cautions really helped me out. Vic must have chosen a harder tire. I was better on the starts and he was better on long green runs." stated a very happy Tommy Kerr from Victory Lane.
