MARKELSBURG, Penn. (September 12) - "All Hail Ye Royal Subjects! Let it be known throughout the land that D.J. Myers from Greencastle, PA has been crowned King of the Knob." King D.J. I earned the $6,000 first place prize by winning the 51-lap 12th Annual King of the Knob event at the Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex on Saturday night for the UFo Race Championship Series.

A field of 46 cars was divided into six heat races, all lined up by the luck of the draw. Rob Blair was the winner of Heat 1, after starting second. Jared Miley won Heat 2, as he also started second. Heat 3 went to fourth starting Gary Dalton. Heat 4 went to Bob Hershman, from the pole. Heat 5 featured a thrilling side-by-side battle for the lead, which was won by D.J. Myers over Alex Ferree. Jason Covert won Heat 6 from second starting position. Two B-Mains rounded out the field. Chuck Harper passed Mike Johnson on the final lap to win B-Main 1, as both drivers transferred to the main. Corey Conley won the second B-main to set the 24-car starting field.

In the redraw for the top 12 starting positions, Jared Miley was the second driver to draw, and pulled the second starting spot. Jim Kutas was the seventh driver to draw, and drew the pole position. At the drop of the green flag for the 51-lap 12th Annual "King of the Knob," third starting D.J. Myers got a great start from third to move into the lead. Miley settled into second ahead of Kutas, Jason Covert, and Tyler Hershey. Hershey was passed for fifth by Rob Blair on lap 2. The battle was for third spot on lap 4, as they crossed the line side by side. Covert cleared Kutas on lap 5. Second running Miley slowed on lap 6 to bring out the first caution period of the race.

Myers had lane choice for the double file restart, putting Covert to his outside. They raced side by side to lap 7, with Covert ahead by a nose. Covert eventually cleared Myers at lap 8 to lead over Myers, Blair, Kutas, and Steve Everhart. Lap 11 was the next caution period, due to a spin by Bob Hershman. Covert took the outside lane on the restart, and Myers used the inside to regain the lead at 12 laps. Covert came right back on the outside, regaining the lead on lap 14. Covert led comfortably as the extended period of green flag racing continued. Blair ran a solid third, remaining close to the leaders. Sam Stile passed Everhart for fourth on lap 17, as Covert caught the tail of the field as the halfway mark closed in. 13th starting Dave Hess took fifth from Everhart at the halfway mark on lap 26. Corey Conley slowed on lap 30 to bring out the event's third caution period.

With Covert's lead gone, the next side-by-side restart saw Myers regain the lead at lap 31. This time Stile slipped past Covert, with Blair and Hess behind. Unlike the previous restarts, this time Myers promptly started to put distance between himself and the competition. Covert regained second on lap 34, but Myers had a half straight lead. The best battle on the track was for fourth, with Blair high and Hess low. Their battle lasted nearly ten laps, before Hess finally cleared Blair for fourth. Just when it appeared that Myers had smooth sailing to the finish, it became a brand new race when fourth caution period of the event appeared with 48 laps complete for a slowing Kutas.

Myers chose outside for the double file restart. When racing resumed, Myers again pulled ahead, leading lap 49 over Covert, Hess, Stile, and Blair. A multi-car tangle in turn four brought out another caution, now setting up a two-lap run to the finish. Myers was again up to the task, leading the way to the checkered flag. Hess took second at the white flag, completing his charge from 13th to finish a close second. Covert was third after leading 22 laps. Stile took fourth after starting eleventh, with Blair fifth from eighth. Sixth was Tyler Hershey, with Davey Johnson bringing his spec engine car from 18th to seventh. UFo Series point leader Alex Ferree was eighth, with Jared Miley finishing ninth after pitting on both early cautions. Mike Johnson was tenth, after starting 21st.

Defending UFo Race Championship point champion Alex Ferree leads the UFo Championship Tour points, by 29.5 over John Mollick. 60 points can be made up at PPMS this weekend, with Keith Barbara still within striking distance of the leaders. Filling the top ten in Series points are Jared Miley, Mike Johnson, Mike Basich, John Flinner, Lynn Geisler, Mel Minnick, and Josh Coffman.
