STRONGSTOWN, Penn. (July 11) - Jason Covert from York Haven, PA made an outside pass of Jamie Lathroum on the final restart with three laps remaining to take the win in the Revolution 2010, highlighting the UFo Race Championship's inaugural visit to Dog Hollow Speedway on Sunday night. Covert's late race dramatics in the 44-lap main event earned him the top prize of $5,000.

Five qualifying heats were run for the 42 entries. Dave Blazavich won the first heat, from the pole position. Heat 2 went to Jared Miley, also from the pole. Jamie Lathroum was the winner of the third heat, from second starting position. Jason Covert came from fourth to win Heat 4, with Jim Kutas winning Heat 5, also from fourth starting spot. The two B-Mains were won by Tommy Beck and Sammy Stile to complete the starting grid.

First heat winner Dave Blazavich drew for the top ten starting spots, from the top two finishers from each heat. After pulling third starting spot for himself, he drew front row starting berths for the UFo point leader entering the race Chad McClellan and Jamie Lathroum. With 26 cars taking the green flag, McClellan led the field to turn one. Exiting turn two, Lathroum swung to the inside to make the pass, and was the leader of lap 1 over McClellan, Gregg Satterlee, Dave Blazavich, and Jared Miley. Miley took fourth on lap 3, but spun in turn two to bring out the event's first caution period.

Lathroum controlled the restart over McClellan, Satterlee, Blazavich, and tenth starting Jason Covert. Blazavich used the outside to pass Satterlee on lap 7, but Satterlee regained the spot on lap 10, just before the caution waved for a stopped Ron Delano. Lathroum again led this restart over McClellan, but Clate Copeman was on the move using the extreme outside lane of the speedway, blasting into third on lap 11. Copeman passed McClellan the next time by, with Covert and 12st starting Jeremy Miller fourth and fifth.

When Jim Kutas slowed to a stop on lap 16, Copeman was now outside Lathroum for the double file restart. Running door to door for most of the lap, Lathroum nosed ahead to lead lap 17 with Covert passing McClellan for third. Copeman nosed ahead on the backstretch, but the yellow appeared for a tangle in turn two. This set up another double file restart, with Lathroum pulling ahead on this restart. Copeman challenged briefly, but started to fade as it appeared his high groove was going away.

At halfway, it was Lathroum pulling away, with Copeman and McClellan battling for second, ahead of Covert and Miller. McClellan regained second on lap 26, with the next caution period on lap 29. Lathroum again led this restart, but Covert muscled his way to second, bringing Miller with him. McClellan was fourth with Copeman fading to fifth. Matt Lux passed the fading Copeman for fifth on lap 31. Miley, after his early spin, recovered to take sixth on lap 34. The leader had smooth sailing and a comfortable lead with the laps clicking away, however, when Keith Barbara slowed on lap 41, it set up the three lap dash to the finish.

Lathroum again chose the inside lane, and easily pulled ahead of Covert before the yellow appeared again for a John Mollick spin. Again with the three lap race to the flag, this restart was completely different. Lathroum nosed ahead at the drop of the green, but Covert stayed alongside past the waving green flag. Charging into turn one on the outside, with a good run through turns one and two, Covert nosed ahead down the backstretch to take over the race lead in what would be the winning move of the race.

Jason Covert would lead the remaining distance, earning the win from tenth starting spot. After leading 41 laps, Jamie Lathroum settled for second holding off a late charge from third finishing Jeremy Miller. Chad McClellan extended his series point lead with a fourth place finish, his second straight top five finish, both coming with a borrowed engine. Jared Miley charged from 26th position on lap 3 to finish fifth, and one could only wonder how different the outcome may have been without the early race incident. Matt Lux was sixth, with Frankie Plessinger, Tommy Beck, Clate Copeman, and Scott Rhodes filling the top ten. Rhodes earned the Pass-Maximum award, presented by Bernheisel Race Components and Lazer Chassis, advancing 12 spots in the main from 22nd starting spot.

The point standings for the UFo Race Championship have Chad McClellan leading John Mollick by 16 points. Keith Barbara is third over Tommy Beck and Danny Mitchell. The rest of the top ten are Jim Kutas, Doug Horton, Jared Miley, Denton Boyer, and Tom Decker, Jr.
