Green Valley Speedway GLENCOE, Ala. (July 4) - It was Stacy Holmes' night to shine.
The Munford, AL driver came from his third place starting spot to passing race leader William Thomas to win his first-career Volunteer Racing Series taking home $3,444 while becoming the fourth different winner in just six events at the Green Valley Speedway in Glencoe, AL on Sunday Night July 4, 2010.
At the drop of the green with was William Thomas at the point but not for long as a 10-car pileup in turn one brought out the red flag and the mess was cleaned up but on the second attempt at a start that did become good, Thomas jumped to the early lead again but just a few laps in created an up-front battle between Thomas and third-starting Stacy Holmes who would then take over the lead in front of a great crowd.
The first yellow flag would wave on the 18th lap as Chris Thomas spun his mount in turn four. By the half-way point it was still Holmes at the point over new second place runner Ronnie Johnson, who started ninth and then seventh place starter Eric Jacobsen, World of Outlaws Late Model Series regular Clint Smith and William Thomas in tow.
The final yellow flag of the 25-minute race was for Tim Busha spinning the Kilpatrick Chevrolet entry in the fourth turn of the 36th lap. Four laps would remain as Holmes got a good jump on the final re-start and hold off Johnson for the win over Jacobsen, Clint Smith and Kelly Hanvey rounding out the top-five.
Holmes came to victory lane while driving the Holmes II Excavation and All Star Graphics sponsored Cornett Racing Engines powered Barry Wright Race Car.
The Volunteer Racing Series will take few weeks off before returning to action on Saturday Night August 7th at the Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, VA paying $5,000 to win, an event that will be co-sanctioned with the Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series. Drivers will be allowed both the Hoosier and American Racer Tires for this event and the procedures and rules information will be released shortly.
