CHATSWORTH, Ga. (August 14) - The Volunteer Racing Series and the PPM Racing Products Southern Regional Racing Series rolled into Timmy Milwood's North Georgia Speedway in Chatsworth, GA for a 40-lap $3,000 to win main event and when all was said and done, Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN claimed his first Volunteer Racing Series event win of the season after taking the lead away from Randy Weaver to claim the event win.

Johnson drive the Miller Brothers Construction, Austin Trucking sponsored Vinson Racing Engines powered MasterSbilt Race Car to the win over David Payne, Kevin Gibson, Derek Ellis and Tommy Kerr.

Fast Qualifier and pole-sitter Randy Weaver took the early lead of the main event driving a Derek Ellis owned back-up car with Ronnie Johnson and Tommy Kerr in hot pursuit. On the second lap the yellow would wave as Jerry Bradley would spin in turn two and Weaver would be out front for the re-start.

The next yellow flag would be on lap five as Jerry Bradley and Ray Jarnigan would collect each-other in turn four. By the sixth lap Johnson was on the rear bumper of Weaver and by the seventh lap Johnson would go to the inside to take the lead from race leader Randy Weaver and hold on to officially lead on the eighth lap.

By the 11th lap, Johnson and the field would start to work lapped traffic around the very quick North GA race track. The final yellow would wave on the 14th lap as Gary McPherson would lose power in turn three. During this yellow, Randy Weaver, who was holding on to third spot pulled into the infield pits with overheating problems, his night was over.

Johnson would lead the remaining laps and go on for his third VRS event victory of the season, his second with the VRS at North Georgia Speedway.

The Volunteer Racing Series will hold its next event of the season on Saturday Night August 21st at the Brandon Hardgrove owned Lake Cumberland Speedway in Burnside, KY. It will be the second appearance of the season to the 3/8th's mile oval located just minutes South of Somerset, KY off of US Highway 27.
