KANSAS CITY, Kans. (September 26) - Denny Woodworth on Friday grabbed the win here at Lakeside Speedway on Night One of the Late Model Shootout. The event was co-sanctioned by the WORLD Dirt Racing League and the O'Reilly MLRA Series.

Woodworth, of Mendon, Ill., started the 30-lap feature from the second row inside position. He battled in the top five for the first half of the race.
He was in third place but inherited the top spot when leader Jess Stovall of Galena, Mo., blew an engine and second-place runner Chad Simpson of Mt. Vernon, Iowa, cut a right rear tire. Woodworth held on to the lead despite heavy pressure from Bryant Goldsmith of Corning, Iowa, and Terry Phillips of Springfield, Mo., who made a hard charge from the back of the pack.

Phillips started 23rd and worked the high side around Lakeside Speedway to a second-place finish. He was closing in on Woodworth toward the end but ran out of laps before he could mount a serious threat.

John Anderson, Omaha, Neb., moved from his 12th-place starting spot to a top-five finish. His patience paid off, and he finished third after battling on the back end of the top five through most of the race. He began his charge forward with 10 laps to go.

Alan Vaughn, Belton, Mo., and Larry Clawson, North Kansas CIty, Mo., rounded out the top five.

Simpson, the WDRL point leader going into the race, finished 11th after cutting the tire and having to fight his way forward from the back of the field.
John Kaanta of Elk Mound, Wis., regained the series point lead with a solid sixth-place finish.

The WORLD Dirt Racing League returns to Lakeside Speedway tonight, Saturday, Sept. 27, for Night Two of the Late Model Shootout. The tour wraps up its 2008 season next weekend with a $10,000-to-win, two-day show at Davenport (Iowa) Speedway.
