DAVENPORT, Iowa (October 3) - Darren "The Thriller" Miller will start from the pole position for the WORLD Dirt Racing League's season finale, the Iowa Governor's Cup, here at Davenport Speedway. The 60-lap, $10,000-to-win main event will be run on Saturday (Oct. 4). Qualifying took place Friday night.

In addition to the race's top spot, the 2008 WDRL championship will be on the line. Only one point separates John Kaanta and Chad Simpson for this year's honors going into Saturday's action.

Miller, of Chadwick, Ill., set fast-time during Iowa-Illinois Taylor Insulation Group Qualifying. Miller backed that up with a win in his CrashedToys.com Heat Race, and he wrapped up Night One of the Governor's Cup by winning the Iowa-Illinois Taylor Insulation Pole Dash. That win earned him the right to start on the pole for Saturday night's feature.

Brady Smith, of Solon Springs, Wis., will start on the outside front row. Jimmy Mars, Menomonee, Wis.; Matt Furman, Iowa City, Iowa; Jason Utter, Columbus Junction, Iowa; and Simpson, Mount Vernon, Iowa, make up the rest of the first three rows for the big dance.

Simpson, just a single point back, is chasing Kaanta, of Elk Mound, Wis., for the 2008 WDRL Late Model Series championship. The crown will come done to who finishes best in the Governor's Cup.

Fans will be able to get up close and personal with the stars of the WDRL starting at 4 p.m. Saturday. Everyone is invited to a drivers' autograph session featuring all classes of cars, including the WDRL drivers who have qualified for the Iowa Governor's Cup race. Racing action is slated for 6.
