NEW RICHMOND, Wisc. (June 20) - Saturday was the seventh race of the 2009 WORLD Dirt Racing League season, the fourth and final night of the Northern Swing and the second and final night here of the 11th annual Masters at Cedar Lake Speedway.

And Menomonie, Wis., driver Jimmy Mars' goal was nabbing his third win in three nights. Mars and his No. 28 car started the evening on the fast race track that featured a night of two-by-two racing by turning in the fast time of 13.438.

Qualifying heat races were captured by Chris Simpson, Scott Gilberts, Chad Simpson and Denny Eckrich.

The Iowa-Illinois Taylor Insulation Pole Dash saw Chad Simpson lead flag to flag with Gilberts and Mars following him to the checkers.

In the $5,000-to-win main event, The Masters, Chad Simpson led almost the first half of the 50-lapper. He seemed to have the car to beat until a lap-30 caution flag. On the restart, Mars was able to overtake Simpson and grab a slight lead only to have another caution flag bunch the field up once again.
On the restart, Mars took the point with Simpson second and Eckrich third. Moving up from his 19th starting position, the No. 44 of Adam Hensel was in fourth. But on the backstretch, Simpson's No. 25 made contact with the wall. After getting the car back on all four wheels Simpson found himself still running in the fourth position.

A big accident involving Jason Utter, Ashley Anderson and Rick Hanestad brought out the red flag. When the race resumed, Chad Simpson was able to hang on to third after a fierce battle with Hensel, and Eckrich moved up to Mars' rear bumper but could not get close enough to mount a challenge. Mars went on to make it three WDRL wins in a row with Eckrich, Simpson, Hensel and Bill Frey rounding out the top five.
