I'm thinking that if we run fewer races, and even if we (interested E v W teams) have to go out and hustle sponsors to help with the purse, so we can pay very good all the way to the back (Bottoms up style), we should be able to attract 20 car fields this year. I think that's a reasonable goal.
In my opinion what we need to do first is figure out a purse structure that we want, and the number of races we want to race. From there it won't be hard to calculate total purse money needed. Subtract what race track owners/promoters are willing to pay from the total purse we want to pay, and that leaves us with the hard part- finding the sponsors to cover that money. I know sponsorship is the hardest part, but I feel we need to know what we want before we go asking for it.

DING DING DING ......WE HAVE A WINNER!
1. GET COMMITTMENT (racers/teams)
2. DETERMINE PURSE
3. GARNER SOLID SPONSOR $$ ( in writing )
4. SET NON-CONFLICTING DATES WITH INTERESTED TRACKS.
5. ALL PARTIES SHOW UP AT ALL EVENTS AND THE TRACKS WILL SEE WHAT YOU BRING TO THEM AND DESIRE YOUR SHOW.
may be premature but the W.A.S. may prove this stategy to be a good "model" for all others interested in UNIFYING YOUR SHOW (CLASS)
jmo.

definantly agree with frazier15 on his point...and as a fan like the idea of the evw direction for next year, but we decieded to stick with hobbies next year instead of supers cuse we didnt want to build a car just to change some more stuff in 3 years to keep up...and like frazier15 the crate motor rule and/or a claim type rule is appealing to us.... i know that clint duncan wants to run evw next year in his super that will be ran @ the bud nat.....i believe roy (his brother) has a super but im not sure if he's going to race it or not...thats 2 new drivers names that are intrested for you lee....

The crate engine rule is in effect right now, so what is the worries. You can buy a crate stick it in a chassis and go race right now. The E v W went with the same rules package for 3 years to keep from having to change things yearly. If you look at other tracks they update and change rules on an annual basis.

GM crate engines have won 2 races at Bakersfield, and Shawn Minor won the hard charger award at the Don Roberts with his crate engine.

So what if you did a claim at a little less than the cost of the crate? Incentive to buy the crate and or keep the cost down on your non crate engine. Or-- a swap with some $$ rule.
I know the road i'm on is unpopular. I know about the 3 year deal.
I like the Super streets. But what incentive is needed to draw out the cars out there? Whats needed to make a guy build a new car?
Why is EVW essential to make it "look like a strong class"? Shouldn't it be a strong class?
I just wish you guys had your heads in the direction of figuring out what it would take to get more cars and more drivers excited about supers.
The average conversation with non super teams goes like this " Street stocks? That class is dying." I hear it ALL the time. It's a great class. The leadership is there- Focus on recruitment.
Why do I care? I have a car. I don't want to end up with a piece of crap in my garage with no place for it to run because a promoter sees a strong mod class and a weak SS class and dumps the street class.
Don't mean to sound negative. Apologies if I do. I actually really care about this subject, would like to see the class strong at SMS and Bako. Would like to have good reasons to put some $$ into my car. Would rather race it than strip it and put everything into a mod.
Now i'm over it.

Even IMCA has been changing their claim rule almost every year lately trying to make it more appealing. I personally don't like the claim rule. I also think 9 out of 10 times it is used as payback rather than for its intended purpose of keeping the engine costs down.

The claim may be unpopular, but the spec engine is definately a contender already. I think it will get more popular as time goes on.

I see where your coming from, and that's what I'm asking. The thing is, we need to figure out what we need to get people to bring out the cars that are already built and running. I don't want to downplay that we need new cars also, but if we can't get the guys that have them to come play, we're really going to struggle getting a new guy to build a new car to come play.

In my opinion, just that nothing else was working.

WOW, I thought that's what this whole thread had turned into.

Frazier 15, I think the problem of going to a claim now is that so many people have built engines with out that concern. IMO if you are moving into a claimer class, you know that going in and you do not buy Crower cranks, Carrillo rods, etc. If you've been running Streets for awhile like a lot of have been, you end up with engines in your shop that you financially could not put in a car that might get claimed. Kinda like the chicken and egg dealio. If you go into IMCA mods then you build accordingly. The problem is that we as a class have not had to build for a claim potential and have been able to build for HP and reliabilty which obviously costs $$$. The no touch heads will help some next year and keeping the lid on future escalating technology should also help keep the class close to where it is now as for as priciness hopefully.

I think what we need is a sactioning body. Hell look at IMCA, seems to work. Im not saying that we need to be nation wide , but darn, it seems that we could get something done at least state wide. And maybe not in 07' or 08', but sometime in the near future. Wouldnt it be great to know that you can go run any track in the state anytime you wanted. EvsW could be scheduled at diffrent tracks every year! Now i know that it all would have to come together, ie track owners, promoters, sponsors, teams, etc, etc, etc. But just remember that IMCA started somewhere....

i like the idea of adding another track or two to your guy's schedule....by traveling you can get more cars to see you guys and add more cars to the evw.....i also think that everytime you guys go to a track you make the car count high...which intern helps the promotor....when they schedule evw i think they know there gonna get a good turn out....one of the main ways to attract g uys to run is more money payout like you said lee and billy....if you can get an equal pay out all the way through THAT alone will bring out those ss from the woodwork

i agree dirt, the one knock that ive heard about the EvsW is that it top heavy when it comes to payout. But then again its known for its $1000 to win. So if they spread it out through the field then the $1000 will have to decrease....

$1000 is not the EvW payout, that is Bakersfield Speedway's weekly payout, as structured by Terry Henry at the begining of the year. That was Terry's way of bringing attention to the class. SMS has paid $800 to win on EvW nights, but they pay better down the ladder. At this point the pay structure is not really dictated by the EvW.

There is no doubt that we need to get more, or in a perfect world all, tracks in CA to run the same SS rules. EvW has started this ball rolling. I don't see many of the current teams going to IMCA SS, just because it's hard to get a racer to slow down. I think the goal of most of us has been to get a uniform set of rules at as many tracks as possible though.

I totally agree, IMCA stocks i dont think would go over to well, like you said its almost impossible to get racers to slow down. SSRA (super streets racing association)

One of the growing pains of the EvW division may be that eventually the name "East vs West" won't fit any more.

I wouldn't be interested in an IMCA deal. If I wanted to run one of those cars I'd run the Bak hobby stock division.
I think the East West is our street stock association. It's probably one of the best set up associations in the nation. I'm not always sure that drivers making the rules is best for the sport but it got the tracks on one page which is a good start. The one thing about the EW compared to IMCA is EW puts some of the stake in the drivers hand. I always invisioned north cars having east west series and south cars having east west races and then having north vs south. But at this point theres not enough cars. We did grab a couple cars from Perris and there are guys at Perris that want to get in on things as well. One thing I'm leary of is creating a full on traveling show because traveling is very expensive as some of the northern cars know.
Changes I'd like to see in the future:
leveled out pay outs, ie 600,500,400,300,275, 250, 225 etc...Winning 1000 feels great but winning 225 for 3rd sucks.
I know everyone hates me for this but maybe evolving into a hoosier hard tire. I still think tires are the biggest expense next to engines. Having a tire that would last longer and limitting HP traction would be good long term. Right now HP matters. Either way it's better than any kind of claim or manditory spec motor.
Getting more tracks on one rule book.
(If the SS bring in 16+ cars they should get the EW payout. I agree anything less should have a pay reduction based on car count)

Have you been hangin' with Odie?lol. Anythings possible, we just need to know how much total purse each week the track is willing to pay. It may be possible to make up the rest through sponsorship on EvW nights.
And as I continue to voice my opinions, don't forget, I'm not the powers that be, nor am I allowed to speak for them. I'm just voicing my own opinions and ideas. However I will try to acquire series sponsorship to help in whatever way possible.
