CURTIS DIETZSCH WINS PERRIS STREET STOCK MAIN!
(JULY 26, 2010, PERRIS, CA) Two time Perris Auto Speedway Street Stock Champion Curtis Dietzsch came from the 12th starting spot to win his second consecutive main event at The PAS on Saturday night, July 24th.
The veteran racer, who also captured the 2009 Victorville Auto Raceway championship, masterfully worked his way through the field and took the lead from Yucaipa’s Alan Grubel at the end of the fifteenth lap. Once out front, the Moreno Valley resident pulled away from the field and had a 10-car length lead when the checkered flag ended the 20-lap race. Grubel and Torrance resident Danny Queener, who were representing the North in the Perris Auto Speedway – Victorville Auto Raceway North vs South Challenge, finished second and third respectively. “Tear Em’ UP” Brian Tully of Fallbrook and Nuevo’s Jim Rook rounded out the top five.
Lakewood’s John Crow came from the back after a lap 14 crash to win the Modified main event. Crowe and Riverside’s David Lord were fighting for the lead when they tangled on lap 14. Both had to restart at the rear of the field. Defending champion and current point leader Alan Updyke of Tustin inherited the lead after the crash and led until Crowe diamonded off turns three and four and swept under Updyke at the end of lap 18. Updyke, who started 12th, ended up second with Kevin Hocking of Huntington Beach third. Veteran’s J.D. Wilson of Costa Mesa and Riverside’s Middy Boggio took fourth and fifth.
Westmoreland’s Rick Ashurt drove his immaculate #21 to his first ever Perris Auto Speedway main event win in the Super Stock (West Coast Street Stock) 20 lapper. Brawley’s Russell Allen, who won the last main event in June, was second followed by 2002 champion Chad Burns of Mira Loma.
For the second race in a row, the Pick-A-Part Factory Stocks raced on the 1/3 of a mile oval instead of the ¼ mile. The Camaro of Hemet’s Keith Wood stuck like glue to the inside line and he won the 20-lap feature over Mike Burks Sr. of Nuevo and Riverside veteran Tom Gillum.
Point leader Jesse Gordon bested fellow Yucaipa resident Brandon James and longtime veteran Johnny Lathrop of Riverside to win the 15-lap Sport Mod main event.
Young A.J. Bender of Ramona came all the way from the 11th starting spot to win his second straight California Lightning Sprint Car main event over Spring Valley’s Jarrett Kramer and 16-year-old Kevin Michnowicz of Lomita.
Heat winners were Dietzsch and Rook in the Street Stocks, Crowe and Updyke in the Modifieds, defending track champion Ken Searcy of Nuevo in the Super Stocks, Burks Sr. in the Pick-A-Part Factory Stocks, Gordon in the Sport Mods and A.J. Bender and his older brother Bobby in the Lightning Sprints.
The PASSCAR series will return to The PAS on Saturday night, August 14th.
