I tried a needle bearing and it was a mess after a few races. It has to be 100% perfect which a lot of bell housing are not.

Tilton has a fixture to center the dowel pins off the crank. May be worth asking around to see if anyone has it. It reams the hole for the dowel then you use a stepped pin from Tilton. No more tranny / clutch problems. We were doing it to every block that was being used with a clutch. Tilton also has steel weld in rings used to center the holes in the bell housing.
We used a lot of Tilton and quarter master stuff and i do not remember the bell housings being made with the difference of a motor
plate, but this was in the late 90s. Maybe something new they are
doing. We used a stock dorman brand bushing and left it hanging out 3/16 or so. Never had a problem.
