Tristan Guardino wins the ARP Battle at the Beach and the $1500

VENTURA, CA (September 12) - Saturday night September 12, saw some of the best racing of the 2015 season as our 2015 season winds down to its conclusion in October. With the third of four ARP Battle at the Beach for VRA Sprint Cars for 2015 headlining the night, the fans in attendance witnessed great racing all night long. Racing was held in seven adult classes and three kids classes.

Saturday night featured the third ARP Battle at the Beach race for 2015. All the top VRA drivers were on hand along with several visiting drivers from USAC to go for the very special trophy and added winners purse that goes to the winner of each of these special events. There were three heat races run with wins going to Kyle Smith, Tyler Edwards and point leader Guy Woodward. The 30 lap main event was a fast and furious event that saw visiting drivers Tristan Guardino and Tyler Edwards battle nose to tail for the whole race. Guardino was able to hold off Edwards to take the $1,500 winners check and special ARP Battle at the Beach trophy. These two chargers were followed by Kyle Smith, Guy Woodward and Luke Boles. Guy Woodward now leads in the VRA point race by 25 over 2014 series champ Kyle Smith. The ARP Battle at the Beach Series will resume on October 17 with the fourth and final event in the series, leading to the crowning of the 2015 King of the Beach. So far in the three races run, Greg Taylor won round one, Troy Rutherford round two and Tristan Guardino round three. VRA Dwarf Cars were back in action Saturday with main event wins going to first time winner Randy Gordon in Seniors and Tim Conley in the Pros. Both drivers drove excellent races to take their wins. In the Seniors Gordon was followed by David Conley, Mike Lewis, Bob Kaufman and Bill Vanpraag. Their heat race win went to Mike Lewis. In the Pros, Tim Conley took the win over brother Johnny Conley. D J Lebow, Randy Gordon, and April Banuelos. The Pros ran two heat races with wins going to Johnny Conley, and Jason Horton. In Senior's points, Bill Van Praag leads Bob Kaufman by 10 points and Johnny Conley leads Tim Conley by 300 points after eleven races in 2015.

In IMCA action, 2015 IMCA track champion Andrew Phipps took the fast paced IMCA 20 lap main event win over Kenny Kirkpatrick, Dennis Eckert, Jack Parker and Robbie Witwer. Phipps took the lead on lap seven from Chris Crompe and was never headed. Their two heat races went to Chris Crompe and Robbie Witwer.

VRA Senior Sprints raced Saturday night with Wally Pankratz taking the 20 lap win over, point leader Clif Warren, Ed Schwarz, Chris Meridith and Will Perkins. Clif Warren took their heat race win.

VRA Sport Compacts were back Saturday night with many time champ Zach Peterson getting back into the winners circle. Following him to the line in their 15 lap main event were Joel Chavez Jr., Matt Peterson, Ernie Malone and Christina Garvin. Peterson also took their one heat race.

Jerry Jones took the win in the Focus Midget feature. He led Daniel Anderson, Robert Dalby, point leader Gary Howard and Joel Rayborne to the line in their 20 lap main event. Past champion Ashley Hazleton took the one heat race run.

In our VRA Kids Divisions, wins went to Zach Chavez in Junior Midgets and Super Chargers and Kristin Long in Pistons. In heat race action, Dylan Cherry in Pistons, Zach Chavez in Super Chargers and Mike Long in Junior Midgets.

Ventura Raceway will be back in action Saturday night September 19 with a Motorcycle Flat Track program of amateur to Pros on the 1/5 mile oval. Also on hand will be the fire breathing speedway bikes and side car racers. Be sure to make plans to be here the following week when the Winged 410 racers of the King of the West Series invade Ventura Raceway for their second visit. Also racing that night will be VRA Senior Sprints and Dwarf Cars.
