The Clash South is gearing up for Lavonia Speedway on July 10

By: Alex Cummings
Wingate, NC. July, 2010. The stars of the Clash South are gearing up for Lavonia Speedway on Saturday, July 10th. This will be just the fourth race of the year for the Clash South and it’s first ever appearance at Lavonia Speedway. “I’m looking forward to the Clash South race at Lavonia Speedway” said Larry Lee, owner of the Clash South. “There are a lot of very talented drivers in Georgia”.

The last appearance for a Clash series race was back in 2008 when the Carolina Clash held a race in which Benji Cole took top honors followed in a close second by the late, great, Ed Gibbons. Ricky Weeks was third in that race. 29 cars registered for the event which was held in the middle of June. Benji Cole also set fast time in June. The win was Cole’s 2nd win of the season on the Clash tour.

The Clash also made an appearance at Lavonia Speedway on August 9, 2003 in which Dennis Franklin took the top honors followed by Tim Headen and Ed Basey. The race drew 21 cars in just the Clash’s third year of operation. Dennis Franklin also set fast time on August 9th.

After 3 events Ricky Weeks is leading the points for the Clash South followed by the 84 of Jay Sessoms, 09 of Johnny Pursley 32 of Jim Rasey and 87 of Ross Bailes. Chris Ferguson and Mike Gault are tied for 6th in points with Randy Harmon in 8th followed by Tim Allen and Jeff Smith.

In the past, the Georgia drivers have been hard to beat and when the “COLE TRAIN” is running hard, you can’t stop a train. Past experience has shown that the Georgia drivers are very hard to beat on their home turf and the July 10th race maybe no different.

Along with the cash, the Clash South has also acquired a few new sponsors since the first race of the year. This season, Comp Cams will be the feature sponsor, awarding the feature winner a $100 gift certificate. Also on board for 2010 is Safety Kleen who will be awarding the Safety Kleen Hard Charger of the Race Award which will be a prize pack consisting of various products from Safety Kleen. R2C Performance was also signed last week and they will now be the official heat race sponsor, awarding each hear race winner with a gift certificate towards a purchase at R2C Performance. Lincoln Electric is also onboard with the Clash South Tour this season and will be giving all Clash South Tour drivers a tremendous discount on all of their products.

Also on the card are the Fastrack Crates, modified street, stock 4, young guns, stock 8, upfronts. Pit gates open at 3pm, grandstands at 4pm, and drivers meeting will be held at 6:30pm sharp. Also on tap for the night is a driver autograph session with the fans, so make sure to bring your favorite drivers shirt or hat for that special autograph.

Please make plans to come join us, July 10th at Lavonia Speedway as the newly formed Clash South makes its first ever appearance. For more information on the Clash South, please visit www.clashsouth.com. For more information on Lavonia Speedway please visit www.lavoniadirttrack.com.
