Anthony Burroughs Claims First Win of 2011

by Ben Shelton
Rogersville, Alabama (05/03/11) – After a nightmare start to the season Anthony Burroughs claimed his first win of 2011 on Friday night in his #121 PMC Enterprises/Barry Wright Super Late Model at North Alabama Speedway.

Friday night was a big night for Anthony and the team as they finally overcame more than their fair share of bad luck in 2011 to claim the $2,000 win feature at North Alabama Speedway (Tuscumbia, Alabama) in PRO Dirt Car Series action. After qualifying second fastest in his group, Burroughs started 3rd on the grid for the 40 lap feature, and early in the race he would slip back as far as the fifth position before slowly mounting a charge to the front of the pack. By lap 25 he was up to the second position as he set his sights on the leader, Rick Rickman. As Rickman worked the cushion, Burroughs worked the lowside, and exiting turn four on the 34th circuit Anthony took control of the lead and never looked back on his way to the win, which was his first of the 2011 season! He was followed across the line by Rick Rickman, Brian Rickman, Kyle Beard, and Josh Putnam.

An emotional Burroughs commented in victory lane, "The start to this year has been so tough, and then so many of our friends were impacted by this past week's storms. This win goes out to everybody, who is hurting right now."

Anthony was once again back in action on Saturday night at North Alabama Speedway (Tuscumbia, Alabama) in a $2,000 to win, PRO Dirt Car Super Late Model Series event. Via time trials, Burroughs earned the fourth starting spot for the 40 lap feature. For much of the event, he would run in the top five, and late in the race he was challenging Kyle Beard for fourth, when he had to spin entering four to keep from getting into Beard. With only five laps remaining, Burroughs would rejoin the pack, but mechanical issues in the closing laps relegated him to a 10th place finish. The upcoming weekend will find Anthony entering a pair of events in Georgia and Tennessee. On Friday, May 6th a $3,000 to win STARS Volunteer Racing Series event is scheduled at Boyds Speedway (Ringgold, Georgia), while on Saturday, May 7th Anthony will take part in a $1,200 to win event at Duck River Speedway.
