Mike Marlar Strong Performance in Rocket Debut at Black Diamond 125

by Ben Shelton
Winfield, Tennessee (09/07/11) – Mike Marlar debuted his brand new #5 Bryson Motorsports/Rocket/Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model over the weekend at the 2nd Annual Black Diamond 125, and after working out the kinks on Friday night, he registered a solid performance on Saturday night.

Mike entered the first night of the Black Diamond 125 on Friday evening as the UFO Super Late Model tour sanctioned the $8,000-to-win event. With 74 entries on hand, the pill draw would be used to set the grid for heat race action, and Marlar would unfortunately draw a large pill, resulting in him starting at the back of his heat. After starting eighth in his heat, he advanced to a fourth place finish, which left him short of a transfer to the feature. He would start sixth in his b-main and advanced to a fourth place finish, but with only the top two cars transferring to the feature, his night would come to an early end. Saturday night found Mike back at Tyler County Speedway (Middlebourne, West Virginia) for the second night of the Black Diamond 125, which saw the World of Outlaws sanctioning the event. A talent-laden field of 87 cars entered the event, and time trials divided the field in half for two separate programs. Mike would set fast time in his group to earn the pole for his heat race, which he won to lock i nto the fifth starting spot for the feature. He would go on to battle his way to a second place finish in the $10,000-to-win, preliminary feature behind race winner, Pat Doar.

Via his performance in the preliminary feature, Mike locked into the Sweet Sixteen Finale, which pitted the top eight finishers from each feature in a $20,000-to-win event. For the bonus feature, Mike would draw the sixth starting spot, and he would once again race his way to a podium finish as he advanced to a third place finish behind race winner, Jared Hawkins, and Dan Stone. Overall, it was a great outing for the team, and a momentum builder for Mike is his new #5 Bryson Motorsports/Rocket/Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model. This weekend, September 9th-10th, Mike will enter the 41st Annual World 100 at Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, Ohio). The $44,000-to-win event is at the top of the list of event's that Marlar would like to win, and his pursuit of his first title will begin on Friday night with two rounds of qualifying. Saturday night's program will be headlined by heat races, b-mains, and the 100 lap finale. For more information, please visit www.EldoraSpeedway.com .
