Springfield Raceway prepares for Season Big 4 Specialsby Ronnie Williams
Springfield, Mo.- With the season long Transport Graphics Championship chase over, the action now will turn on the Quick-Quarter of the Springfield Raceway as it prepares for the Big 4 Specials featuring something for everyone as it is time for the money events.
First on the list will be the Larry Phillips Memorial presented by HomePro out of Joplin.
The Classic showdown between the MARS and MLRA Super Regional Late Models will do battle on the High-banked "Racy" Quick-Quarter as Springfield's Jeremy Payne will try to keep the title in the Phillips racecamp. Current Series point leaders Brad Looney from Republic from the MARS Series and John Knutz Memorial winner and MLRA Point leader Al "The Shark" Purkey of Kansas head another star-studded field of Late Models on the multi-grooved dirt track .Add-in Jesse Stovall, Terry Phillips, David Turner, Tony Jackson Jr, Alan Vaughn, Brandon McCormick, John Anderson, Justin Wells, Ken Essary and many more to keep the action going full bore. The High-horsepower of the Budweiser A-Mods, B-Mods, Legends, Midwest Modz and Pure Stocks complete the evenings activities. Race time will be at 6:30 sharp.
Second on the hit list is the biggest paying event for Springfield Raceway as Border Town Casino presents Octoberfast on Sat October 15th featuring A-Mods, B-Mods, Legends,Midwest Modz, Pure Stocks and the area Bomber division class cars will be added to this popular 1 night event. Also the popular money bucket drop during intermission for the fans as they get a chance at some $$$$.The event will also feature the battle of the badges as area and state law enforcement personnel compete to raise money for one missing link.
The first ever BoogerMan Classic will be held on Sat Evening October 29th featuring a chance for the kids to enjoy racing and do trick or treating as area businesses will set-up small booths. Final details for this event are still being worked out as many different classes and types of cars are wanting to be included, but knowing owners Jerry Hoffman and Doug Bland they will pull out a show stopper as always.
The 4th and final Big 4 season special will be the running of the 5th annual Turkey classic presented by Bad Boy Mowers on November 26th. featuring Late Models, A-Mods, B-Mods and Legends .Last season this 1 day event drew a whopping record event of 189 cars in the pits. This Sat after Thanksgiving event has grown to become an event everyone wants to be part of. Last season Justin Wells took home the trophy by holding off Action Jack Sullivan in the Late model portion while Branson's Jody Tillman beat out over 75 other A-Mods and held off a late surge by Chad Lyle in taking home the honors. Iowa's Jesse Sobbing started 12th but took his GM Performance 602 Crate motor to the win over a hard charging Brian Bolin of Kansas and over 50 plus other B-Mods while Springfield's Jason Rayle captured the Legends feature.

Home Pro has alot of racing tradition as owner John Tullis and his family have rich racing roots in the Missouri area as John's father, "Fast" Freddie Tullis Sr. was a many time champion in the 4-state area in Stockcar racing not only at the Joplin area tracks but also at the big 1/2 mile Dirt track in Springfield, Mo. John Tullis himself was a very established racer with father Fred Sr helping him along until his passing.Fred Sr is a memeber of the Ozarks Area Racers Hall Of Fame and went head to head against Larry Phillips many times at the Fairgrounds in Springfield.

The Running of the Larry Phillips Memorial will feature another great match-up between the Stars of the MARS and MLRA Super Late model Series along with racing featuring the A-Mods, B-Mods, Midwest Modz, Legends and Purestocks.
Defending Event winners include Springfield's Jeremy Payne (LateModels), Luke Driskell of Stillwell, Kansas (A-Mods),Gary Rodocker of Willard (B-Mods), and Jason Rayle of Springfield(Legends). Last season the Midwest Modz and Pure Stocks did not compete in this event while Bob Maggard Sr won the Street Stock version.
Grandstand gates will open on Sept. 17 at 4:30 with Adult admission only $20 for this special event. hotlaps will begin at 5:30 and Racing to Start at 6:30PM Sharp. Pitgates will open around 3PM while the local drivers meeting will take place at 5PM. Draw for starting spots on the local classes will cut-off at 5:45. Pitpasses will be $35.
