Moran wins the DJ Directional Services, LLC and Mars Trucking Freedom Fighters 40 at Wayne County Speedwayby Ryan Pearson
ORVILLE, Ohio (September 24) - The fans and race teams came out in droves and were treated to dirt slinging action packed racing all night long. DJ Directional Services, LLC and Mars Trucking sponsored the racing festivities.
In the Super Late Model division Millersburg, Ohio Keith Berner jumped out to the early lead from the pole position just ahead of Ryan Missler, Corey Conley, Donnie Moran and Ryan Markham. Berner stretched his lead over the field but a lap seven caution for Shane McGloughlin erased the advantage Berner held. The racing resumed for a few laps but the red flag flew for John Mollick who flipped several times. With the field bunched up Moran slipped past Markham and Missler to take second place and set his sights on Berner. The caution again flew this time for George Lee who had a flat tire. Lee was battling for sixth place after starting seventieth. At the drop of the green flag Berner again pulled away from the field and stretched his lead. On lap twenty-six Moran closed in on Berner and began looking under him trying to make the pass. Berner felt the pressure but continued to hold off Moran who moved up and ran up against the cushion in turn one and two. On lap thirty eight Moran dove low under Berner to complete the pass and take the lead. As Berner passed the flag stand it was evident his engine had a miss and slowed him down. With the white flag flying Conley too slipped pass Berner to take second place. Conley closed on Moran but was unable to take the lead. At the checkered flag it was Moran taking the win and $4000.00 paycheck ahead of Conley, Berner, Markham and Missler. Winning heat races were Berner, Markham, J.R.Gentry and Missler. Lee and Charlie Maloney won B-Mains."Berner was running real well, this kind of race track fits his driving style" stated Moran in victory lane. "We gave it a good shot and with B.A. Malcuit supplying the power under this car and Custom Cutters and Eddie Sunoco our crew and family just want to say thanks to everyone". Presenting the winner his check was D.J. Miller, sponsor and owner of DJ Directional Services LLC.
At the drop of the green flag several cars tangled in the 410 Winged Sprints involving Cole Duncan, Rob Chaney, Beau Stewart and Danny Mumaw. Stewart and Mumaw retired for the night due to damage to their race cars. Duncan took evasive action and dove to the infield but had a nerf bar pushed into his right rear tire and Chaney took a wild ride but never stopped on the track. On the restart Lee Jacobs pulled ahead of the field to take the early lead ahead of Andre Layfield, Travis Philo, Caleb Helms, Rob Chaney and Aaron Shaffer. Layfield who was running second spun coming off turn two; he kept it going by completing four additional 360’s but never stopped and regained control running in fifth place. By lap eleven Jacobs held a commanding lead over Philo, Chaney, Helms, Layfield and seventeenth starting Kory Crabtree. By mid race Chaney began his march forward as he rim rode around Philo for second and began chasing down Jacobs. A tight battle ensued for third with Philo and Helms running side by side for several laps. Up front Chaney reeled in Jacobs and again used the cushion to sling shot his way around Jacobs for the lead. The checkered flag waved it was Chaney coming home the winner. He was followed by Jacobs, tenth starting Helms, Layfield, Crabtree, Duncan and Philo. Heat race winners were Jacobs, Chaney and Layfield. Jason Dolick won the B-Main.
In the Tri-State Modifieds it was Mark Dickson claiming the early lead ahead of Norm Aronhalt, Rory Reed, Larry Kugel and Travis Dickson. On lap eleven Aronhalt put heavy pressure on Mark Dickson for the lead which continued for several laps. On lap fourteen Aronhalt tried to duck under Mark Dickson but was unable to make the pass and Mark Dickson held the lead. On lap 19 the caution flew for Travis Dickson and Kevin Morehouse. Both Morehouse and T.Dickson would retire for the evening. A tight battle waged in the late stages between Corey Conley and Doug Drown. When the checkered flag flew it was Mark Dickson coming in the winner. He was followed by Aronhalt, Reed, Conley, Drown and fourteenth starting Rick Mardis.
In the Thrifty Discount Muffler Pure Stocks it was Larry Baldwin who powered to the lead. Baldwin was chased by Shawn Valenti, Kyle Dickinson, Timmy Glassburn and Ed Leasure. Dickinson jumped up to second place and put Baldwin in his sights. Dickinson began to pressure Baldwin and eventually motored to the lead. Dickinson making his first appearance ever at Wayne County Speedway came home the winner ahead of Leasure, Valenti, Steve White and tenth starting Justin Patterson. Winning heat races were White, Jeremy Dickerson and Glassburn.
In the Mini Stock division Kyle Moore blasted to the lead over Chase Alexander, Michael Rose and Dustin Daugherty. Alexander retired early due to mechanical issues and wouldn’t be able to continue. Moore stretched his lead over the field but a lap nine caution for Jason Gentry bunched the field. When the racing resumed Moore again took a commanding lead ahead of the field. When the checkered flag flew it was Moore coming home the winner, he was followed by Rose, Daugherty, Lester Berry and Gentry. Alexander won the heat race.
