MARKLEYSBURG, PA (May 12, 2012) - Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex saw some exciting feature races on Saturday night. Jared Hawkins started the night of by winning the May 5 make-up feature for the Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic Super Late Models. Beverly, WV’s Chuck Harper returned to victory lane for the first time since 2009 by beating out Tim Senic by a few feet in the regularly scheduled feature for the Super Lates. Nolan Dalton picked up his first win of the season in the High Gear Speed Shop FASTRAK LM’s. Picking up their second wins of the year were Todd Dennis (Krause Electric Street Stocks), Shawn Smith (Ft. Necessity Garage Chargers) and Paul Koffler, Jr. (Newt’s York Bar Roadrunners). The Modifieds had the night off.
The Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic Super Late Model make-up feature from May 5 got the night’s racing started. Gary Dalton took the lead at the drop of the green and led the first eleven laps before a yellow slowed the 25 lap event. On the restart Fairmont, WV’s Jared Hawkins was able to get around the veteran and took off. Tim Senic moved into second at the same time and stayed with Hawkins but could not muster a challenge. Hawkins took his first win of the season over Senic, Bob Gordon, Matt Cosner, Scott Rhodes, Chuck Harper, LC Powers, Billy Holbert, Quinton Wyandt and Joe Krcelich.
Morgantown, WV’s Nolan Dalton returned to the winners circle at Roaring Knob for his first win this season in the High Gear Speed Shop FASTRAK Late Models. Dalton led lap one before Ryan Montgomery forged ahead and looked like he was on his way to the checker. Dalton took to the high side and motored by on lap 14 and led the final six laps for the win. Montgomery claimed second over John Over, Troy Shields and Mike Lewis. Sixth through tenth were Louie Krushansky, Ben Policz, Billy Stile III, Ricky Meglaye and Jeremy Zufall. Dalton and Over were the heat winners.
Todd Dennis, of Newell, started on the outside pole in the 15-lap Krause Electric Street Stock main. Dennis grabbed the top spot at the start. Dennis couldn’t rest as he had a freight train behind him. Jim Bendishaw, Jr., Mike Duritsky and Bob Neratka were under a virtual blanket battling for the lead. Numerous cautions unfortunately slowed the event and it was checkered with 11 of the 15 laps completed as the 20 minute time limit has expired. Dennis was awarded the win, his second of the season, over Bendishaw, Duritsky, Neratka, Bob Nelson, Tom Newman, Bob Miller, Marty Spade, Jr., Eric Smith and Jim Zufall. Winning heats were Neratka and Duritsky.
West Leisenring’s Paul Koffler, Jr. also made it two straight wins in the Newt’s York Bar Roadrunner feature. Koffler led all 12 laps to score the win followed by Steve Settle, Mark Seiler, Greg Staggers, David Friend, Jr., Jeremy Hill, Todd Detrick, Clark Ligenfield (filling in for Allen Fortney), Roy Povlik and Cindy Rhodes. Seiler and Settle won the qualifying heats.
Chuck Harper, Tim Senic and Billy Holbert had the fans on their feet yelling in an exciting Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic Super Late Model feature. Bob Gordon was the first leader of the 25-lap event. Gordon led until lap eleven when Harper drove by. Harper only led three laps when Tim Senic passed him in lapped traffic. That seemed to charge up Harper as he came storming back taking the lead on lap 18. Although he tried Harper could not shake off Senic who tracked him into lapped cars again. On the final lap Senic looked like he would steal the win away taking the lead. Harper was possessed and came charging out of turn four, shot to the low side and beat Senic be a few feet. Holbert watched from his third place finish ahead of Scott Rhodes and Bob Gordon. Chad McClellan came from 14th to finish sixth over Matt Sponaugle, Quinton Wyandt, Garrett Krummert and LC Powers. Heats for the 24 cars went to Gordon, Senic and Harper.
The 12 lap Ft. Necessity Charger feature was another good battle. Leading the first seven laps was Kenny Burkholder. It was a four car battle, but Confluence’s Shawn Smith came out on top after taking the lead on lap 8. Burkholder held on for second followed by JT Baird, CJ Nicola, Kyle Burkholder, Cody Colflesh, Brad Jenkins, Ed Vogel, Bradley Nesline and Justin Howell. Vogel and Colflesh scored the heat wins.
Powder Puff races were also run for the Roadrunners and Street Stocks. Candy Koffler won over Crystal Jones in the Roadrunners while Bobbie Yauger beat Stacey Tressler in the Stocks.
A collection was taken up at intermission for driver Bus Matthews, who is awaiting a liver transplant. Drivers went through the stand and collected $1133. Kenny and Kyle Burkholder also donated their winnings from night to make the total over 1200 dollars.
