Mumaw makes last corner pass to take win; Davies, Dickerson and Aronhalt also victorious at NAPA AUTO PARTS Wayne County Speedway

by Ryan Pearson
Orrville, Ohio (May 11, 2012) Under beautiful skies the packed grandstands at NAPA AUTO PARTS Wayne County Speedway race fans were treated to an exciting night of racing one that feature slide jobs, door to door and last corner passes for the win. “Our fans were treated to a show tonight” stated General Manager Jason Flory after the races. “If that sprint feature didn’t get you excited as a race fan then nothing will; I am a late model guy but that Sprint race was exciting” Flory continued.

In the Fisher Performance 410 Sprints Andrew Palker and Bryce Dickson lead the field to the green flag from their front row. Palker found the inside groove to his liking as he bolted past Dickson to take the lead. On lap four the field got settled in Palker held the point over Dickson, Mitch Harble, Danny Mumaw and Cole Duncan. As the front runners were working the inside Mumaw found the cushion next to the guardrail in turn one and two his preferred line enabling him to gain ground on the leaders. On lap seven Mumaw looked like he was riding a rocket flew down the back stretch and dove under Harble as they entered turn three. When it appeared he would be content with third. He pushed his sprint car hard under Dickson snagging two positions in one turn. Mumaw set his sights on the Palker as the laps clicked down. On lap thirteen Mumaw caught Palker and slid under him in turn three; Palker not giving up dove back under Mumaw as they drag raced down the front stretch. Palker narrowly held onto the lead over Mumaw for lap fourteen. A late race caution for Broc Martin who spun in turn two bunched the field. When the racing resumed Palker jumped out to the lead and started to stretch his lead to nearly 10 car lengths. As the final laps clicked down Mumaw again took to the high side in turns one and two and could gain valuable ground on the leader. On the final lap Mumaw caught Palker and slid under him to take the lead. But just as before Palker came back under Mumaw to regain the lead then as they entered turn four to take the checkers Mumaw slid back under and held off Palker to take the win.  Rounding out the top five were Palker, Duncan, Harble and Dickson. Palker and Dickson won heat races.

In the Lias Tire Super Late Models Shane McLoughlin and Warren Pennsylvania’s Ron Davies brought the field to the green flag. McLoughlin jumped ahead of Davies to take the early lead. On lap three Davies ran the middle groove to sling shot around McLoughlin to take the lead. A tight battle ensued for the second position as Millersburg, Ohio’s Keith Berner pulled along McLoughlin trying to the second position away. As Davies began to stretch his lead, Berner continued to put pressure on McLoughlin as he they rode side by side for several laps. With Davies out front and McLoughlin in second on lap fifteen Berner again started peeking on the outside of McLoughlin for second place. McLoughlin keep his cool and held steady and kept Berner at bay. With a large lead Davies caught the back markers which allowed McLoughlin and Berner to close up on the leader. Davies kept the blistering pace and took the checker flag ahead of McLoughlin, Berner, seventh starting Corey Conley and George Lee.  Markham, McLoughlin and Davies won heats and Mark Gardiner won the B-Main.

In the Bremenour Electric Modifieds Jim Nicely and Norm Aronhalt led the field to the green flag. Aronhalt powered out to the lead ahead of Nicely, Larry Kugel, Mitch Bascich and Bruce Miller. Aronhalt set a torrid pace with Nicely and Kugel in tow battling for second. Kugel closed the gap on Nicely and began putting pressure for the second position. Kugel powered past Nicely to snag the second position and tore after the leader. Aronhalt stretched is head over the field as Kugel, Nicely and Bascich attempted to chase him down. Aronhalt crossed the finish line taking the win ahead of Kugel, Nicely, Bascich and Eric Singhaus who snagged fifth place with a last lap pass. Aronhalt and Nicely won heat races.

In the Thrifty Discount Muffler Pure Stocks Jeremy Dickerson and Brandon Gardner brought the field to the green flag. From the beginning Dickerson and Gardner waged a dog fight for the lead. Side by side door handle to door handle these two waged war for the lead. Dickerson found the inside line his favorite way around the track and Gardner made the high side to his liking to hold with Dickerson. A few cautions bunched the field and when racing resumed the epic battle continued to wage. Dickerson held a narrow advantage as he and Gardner raced side by side. Tony Cline, Josh Miller, Brandon Craver round out the top five on lap seven. At the front it was still door handle to door handle for the lead as Dickerson and Gardner attempted to pull ahead of each other. On lap ten Gardner wrestled away the lead from Dickerson. On lap eleven the caution flag flew for Todd Gallion; while under caution Gardner pulled to the infield with a flat tire handing the lead back to Dickerson. Gardner took his race car pitside, changed a tire and returned to the action at the tail of the field. In the remaining laps Cline set sail for Dickerson trying to take the lead but he was unable to do so in the closing laps. Dickerson took the checkers ahead of Cline, Jeremy Lynch, Josh Miller and Brandon Craver. Gardner fought his way back to a sixth place finish. Miller, Dickerson and Gardner won heat races.
