Looney captures Charlie Fulton Memorial win at Thunderbird Speedway

MUSKOGEE, OK (April 28) - Brad Looney of Republic, MO found victory lane Sunday night at the 2nd annual Charlie Fulton Memorial at the Thunderbird Speedway. Looney, the 2011 MARS point champion, was never seriously challenged in the 25 lap race worth $3,000. The MARS DIRTcar Series event was co-sanctioned with the MLRA Late Model Series.

6-time MARS champion Terry Phillips of Springfield, MO sat on the pole for the feature race with reigning MARS champion Jesse Stovall of Billings, MO to his outside. Looney started inside the second row and on the start, ducked under Phillips heading into turn one and take a slight advantage into turn two, but Phillips would pass Looney back as they headed down the backstretch. Looney would rally back and he and Phillips would enter turn three side by side and Looney would dive under Phillips as they exited turn four and take the lead for good.

Will Vaught of Crane, MO; Phillips; John Anderson of Omaha, NE and Mark Dotson of Cameron, MO rounded out the top five. The win was Looney’s first of the 2013 season and his 6th career win with the MARS series. The last time Looney visited victory lane with the MARS series was March 24, 2012 at Springfield Raceway in Springfield, MO.
