Rick Eckert Grabs Handful of Top Tens During Speedweeks; Emerges Fourth in WoO Points YORK, PENN (February 27) - Rick Eckert Racing returned back to their York, Pennsylvania race shop earlier this week following a flurry of racing action in the Sunshine State of Florida from February 14-22. In all, Rick Eckert competed in eight feature events at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, Florida and Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Florida. "Scrub" was solid throughout "Speedweeks," as he was able to accumulate one Top Five finish and five Top Ten performances.
Rick's best run in Florida came in his season opener on February 14 at Bubba Raceway Park. He posted the twelfth quickest lap during the World of Outlaws Late Model Series qualifying session prior to finishing fourth in heat race action. After rolling off from the outside of the sixth row in the 35-lap main event, Rick was able to blast past eight competitors during the caution-free affair en route to a strong fourth place outing. The Keystone State driver trailed only $7,000 winner Brady Smith, Brandon Sheppard, and Darrell Lanigan to the checkers in the WOOLMS lid lifter.
Rick, who became a proud grandpa to granddaughter Lona during the southern swing, was especially consistent in World of Outlaws competition. He racked up a total of four Top Tens at Ocala and Volusia, while his worst finish with the national touring series was a respectable eleventh place effort. Rick parlayed that consistency into a fourth place standing in the current version of the World of Outlaws Late Model Series points. The #24 team is set for a weekend off on February 28-March 2, but may return to dirt-slinging competition as soon as next weekend. Their racing schedule is currently in flux until the next scheduled WOOLMS showdown on March 28 at Lonestar Speedway in Kilgore, Texas.
