_______________________________________Ray Cook Hangs on to Podium Finish at Smoky Mountain; TST Doubleheader Ahead
BRASSTOWN, NC (April 30) - Ray Cook was back behind the wheel of Tommy Pope's #53 MasterSbilt entry on Saturday evening, April 26 at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, Tennessee. The Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series (SAS) presided over the single-day showdown and a $5,000 winner's share was on the line. Ray clicked off the fastest lap in Group B during SAS time trials, which locked him into the outside of the front row for the start of the 40-lap feature event.
The Brasstown, North Carolina native then ran second throughout much of the A-Main before getting passed for the runner-up position in the waning laps. Despite shredding a right rear tire on the final circuit, Ray limped his mount home in the third position to claim a podium effort behind only victor Billy Ogle, Jr. and runner-up Mike Marlar. Complete results from Smoky Mountain Speedway can be viewed online at www.sasdirt.com
Ray will hook back up with Tommy Pope's team on May 2-3 in a special NASCAR weekend doubleheader at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, Alabama. With the NASCAR stars racing across the street at the ginormous Talladega Superspeedway, Ray will compete for a $2,000 top prize on Friday night in an unsanctioned program at TST and a $4,000 payday in the Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series (SAS) tilt on Saturday evening.
