Delmas Conley Scores First Victory of 2014 in PRP Kickoff Classic; Eldora Next WHEELERSBURG, OH (June 5) - Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer Delmas Conley scored his first feature win of the 2014 campaign on Saturday night, May 31 in the season opener at the nearby Portsmouth Raceway Park in Portsmouth, Ohio! Delmas claimed the $2,000 top prize by besting Ben Adkins, Josh Bocook, Paul Davis, and Lee Logan in the PRP Kickoff Classic. His grandson J.T. Conley also put his Rocket Chassis on the podium on Saturday at Atomic Speedway near Chillicothe, Ohio. After setting fast time in qualifying and winning his heat race, J.T. wound up third in the $1,500 to win feature behind only victor Jeremy Berwanger and runner-up Greggie Oliver.
Rod and R.J. Conley, on the other hand, ventured to the venerable Florence Speedway in Union, Kentucky on Saturday evening for the 28th edition of the 'Ralph Latham Memorial.' R.J. laid down the quickest lap in Group A during Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series qualifying and later won his heat race by beating Kent Robinson, Randy Weaver, and Eddie Carrier, Jr. After starting from the pole position in the $10,000 to win main event, the Wheelersburg, Ohio native admittedly missed the setup on his brand-new Rocket car and wound up twenty-third in the final finishing order. Rod ran sixth in his heat race, won his consolation race, and later stormed past ten competitors during the 50-lap 'Ralph Latham Memorial' to record a solid eighth place performance. The stakes will raise in a hurry come Saturday at the hallowed 1/2-mile, high-banked speedplant, as heat races and consolation events will precede the 100-lap 'Dirt Late Model Dream,' which once again boasts a huge $100,000 payday.
