Spence Pads Points Lead With Fourth Winchester Win
Parrill Romps to Fourth Pure Stock Checker"

by Doug Watson
WINCHESTER, VA (July 26) - Winchester Va.'s JT Spence, the current Late Model points-leader, drove to his fourth feature win of the season in last Saturday nights 30-lap Late Model main at Winchester Speedway. The win for Spence, worth $2000, ended at just the right time as rain fell on the speedway after Spence took the checkered flag washing-out the remainder of the program.

Tommy Armel and Spence made up the front-row for the start of the event with Armel bursting into the race lead as the field raced off turn-two. Armel, who was searching for his first Winchester feature win since 2012, lead the race for the first six-laps with Spence in tow. Spence then discovered the bottom of the speedway was the place to be and zipped by Armel to become the new pacesetter on lap-seven. From that point forward, it would be a race for second, as Spence drove off uncontested to score the win over eventual runner-up Tommy Armel. "I'm glad we beat the rain." Spence stated as we caught up in his teams hauler as the rain pelted the speedway grounds. "Tommy was running a softer tire than we were tonight and he was having trouble keeping his car on the bottom, so I knew that's where I had to be." Said Spence. "The bottom has been pretty good here lately because the top gets so dirty and hard to get a hold of, so we were set-up to run down there tonight." Spence capped-off a good weekend with his Winchester win and a runner-up performance the night prior at Potomac (MD) speedway." We've been trying some new stuff with the car." Spence stated. "We're trying to get ready for the Outlaw's when they come to town here in a few weeks, and I think were getting better, but we'll keep working on it." Tony Crim came home third, Dale Hollidge took fourth with JR Overstreet completing the top-five. Heats went to Spence and Greg Roberson.

Craig Parrill nailed down his fourth win of the season in the 15-lap Pure Stock feature. Parrill, who started fourth, lead all but two laps of the event to score the win over runner-up Mike Bennett. Point leader Mike Franklin rebounded from a lap-one spin to take third, Keith Koontz was fourth with Jerry Jenkins Jr. completing the top-five.

Justin Hottle continued his winning ways as he won for the sixth time this season in the 15-lap Four-Cylinder main. Cody Kershner darted into the early race lead and appeared headed to his fourth win of the season. Hottle arrived on lap-fourteen and as the duo raced off turn four for the checkered flag, Hottle squeaked out the win by a fender over Kershner. Ed Gageby collected third, Lester Riley was fourth with Randy Linaburg rounding out the top-five.

Steve Fadeley scored his first-career Winchester feature win in the make-up 15-lap U-Car feature that was lost to curfew the Saturday prior. Fadeley snared the race lead from Robert Wilson on lap-four and had to withstand a furious late race rush from Michael Pfaff, who later lost the spot at the tech-line, to score the break-through win. Jeff Wilkins was second, Charlie Good third, Jason Wilkins fourth with Randy Wilkins rounding out the top-five.

The 20-lap Limited Late Model and regularly scheduled 15-lap U-Car features were lost to rain and will be made up at a later date.
