Ray Cook Leads Flag-to-Flag in Spring Thaw at Volunteer Speedway to Pocket $6,000

BRASSTOWN, NC (April 23) - After Mother Nature wreaked havoc once again on his Spring Nationals Series in the Peach State of Georgia on April 17-18, Ray Cook streaked back north on Saturday to pick up his #53 ride in hopes of making it to Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, Tennessee in time for the annual running of the 'Spring Thaw.'

With cars in line to hot lap when he pulled into the pit area, Ray was able to unload just in time to lay down the second quickest lap overall during the Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series qualifying session. The Brasstown, North Carolina standout then led all fifty circuits from his front-row starting spot en route to capturing the $6,000 payday ahead of Billy Ogle, Jr., Donald McIntosh, Vic Hill, and Stacy Boles! Complete results from "The Gap" can be accessed online at www.carolinaclash.com.

"It was definitely a fire drill to get things ready to even make it to Bulls Gap, but our hard work paid off in a big way," quoted Cook earlier this week via telephone. "I hate it that we lost two more Spring Nationals races to weather because I know how much money it costs those teams to travel up and down the road like that. After making the decision early in the day to nix the Brunswick event, we hustled back to the shop and got our car ready to go. Fortunately, we got there just in time and our Capital racecar performed well all night long!"

The #53 team plans on taking the upcoming April 24-25 weekend off from racing action. Ray will be busy promoting Tri-County Race Track in Brasstown, North Carolina on Friday, as a special McDonald's Night is planned for the first night of point racing action at the 1/4-mile bullring. On Saturday evening, his Old Man's Garage Spring Nationals Series tour will try to beat Mother Nature by presiding over a $6,000 to win shootout at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, Tennessee.
