Southern All Stars/NASCAR Weekend At Talladega Short Track

FAYETTEVILLE, TN (April 28) - The Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series will makes its first stop of the 2015 season Saturday night May 2nd  at the Talladega Short track in Eastaboga, AL., for the annual NASCAR Weekend with a 40 lap $4,000 to win event.  The event has been a long standing deal with the Southern All Stars and with the Talladega Short Track and is one that many of the drivers and fans look forward to each and every year.

Randy Weaver of Crossville, TN., will be the man to beat, so far this year he has won all three Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series events and is always one of the top competitors for the win at Talladega Short Track.  He is currently riding a 6 for 6 race streak as he has won in all 6 events that he has entered so far in 2015 throughout the country.

Two time Southern All Star Dirt racing Series Champion Riley Hickman of Ooltewah, TN., will also be on hand as he is working on going after his third straight series title, but he is currently in second place in series points,  a place that he has not been in almost two years.  Hickman also is a top runner at Talladega and will be a driver that will be up front all night as well. Third place in series points is Chris Madden of Gray Court, SC., fourth place is Todd Morrow of East Ridge, TN., who is making his third run at the series title and is also a top runner in races at Talladega and already has a win at the track this year, and fifth place ins series points is Rookie of the Year contender  Dillon Tidmore of Glencoe, AL., who has had some bad luck in the last two events after  a solid run in the opening event at East Alabama, Tidmore will be looking to bounce back at TST.

Other drivers that are expected to be on hand include Chris Wilson of Crossville, TN., Bub McCool of Vicksburg, MS., Brandon Kinzer of Allen, KY., Jake Knowles of Tyrone, GA.,   and Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN.

Action get underway on Friday night for the super late models with a 30 lap $2,000 to win event and then the Southern All Stars sanctioned  events will be on Saturday night, along with a full racing program both nights.

Longtime Southern All Star Racing Series Supporter Alfred Gurley Passes Away

FAYETTEVILLE, TN—The Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series lost one of its biggest supporters Friday morning as co owner of the Talladega Short Track Alfred Gurley passed away after a lengthy illness,  Gurley who along with Lynn Phillips are co owner of the Talladega Short Track and have been a key part in the success of the Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series over its 32 year history and are still a part of the series to this day having hosted over 100 Southern All Star events..

“Alfred Gurley was from the old school of promoters and did things his way, you might question some of things that he done, but most of the time his was spot on in what he wanted to do or what was going to take place,” said Lynn Acklin of the Southern All Stars.  “We had our in and out over things, but  I know Alfred really liked Southern All Stars and for what it did for his track and helped out drivers and  what it can still do today”

Gurley and Phillips have built Talladega Short Track from its time in 1977 to one of the top dirt tracks in the country and in 2008 they were named RPM National Promoters of the Year.

The funeral arrangements for Talladega Short Track Co-Owner/Promoter Alfred Gurley will be Visitation on Sunday from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. with the Funeral Service to follow at the Usery Funeral Home, 516 North Street East, Talladega, AL 35160, 256-362-2344. Mr. Gurley passed away on Friday morning. He was 82-years-old.
