Garrett Alberson Takes CCSDS Point Lead; Mississippi Weekend Next

by Ben Shelton
SHREVEPORT, Louisiana (May 6) – While Garrett Alberson currently has no intent of chasing points in 2015, it hasn’t stopped him from residing atop the COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS) standings after the tour’s opening weekend in his Childress Racing #F5 Black Diamond by Club 29/Durham Racing Engine Super Late Model.

Garrett Alberson enjoyed a great weekend as he claimed a pair of podium finishes with the COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS).

On Friday night Alberson went into battle in a $2,000-to-win event at Diamond Park Speedway (Nashville, Arkansas). With twenty-seven entries on hand Garrett won his heat race from the 3rd starting spot to lock into the 2nd starting spot for the 35 lap feature. Alberson battled past pole sitter, Jack Sullivan for the lead on lap 4 and would lead the next ten circuits before Sullivan retook the lead on lap 15. From that point Garrett chased Sullivan to a second place finish.

Saturday evening found the team in competition at Ark-La-Tex Speedway (Vivian, Louisiana), where Garrett was up against a talented field of thirty-three competitors. He won his heat after starting 6th. His performance in preliminary action heearned the pole position for the 35 lap feature. Fellow front-row-starter, Timothy Culp got the jump at the drop of the green flag. Alberson chased Culp for the duration of the feature, while simultaneously battling Kyle Cummings for the runner-up position. As the race entered its late stages Cummings moved into second as Alberson settled into a podium finish behind race winner, Culp, and Cummings.

“We had a great car all weekend, and I just came up a little short in getting the wins,” said Alberson. “I’m getting really comfortable in the car now though, and this is just an amazing opportunity. I can’t thank Mr. Childress and all of my great sponsors enough for their support.”

Garrett now leads the CCSDS standings. The latest standings as well as full results from the weekend are available at www.COMPDirt.com .

The upcoming weekend, May 8th-9th will take Alberson to Mississippi for a doubleheader of action between the CCSDS and Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series (MSCCS) Super Late Models. On Friday night a $2,000-to-win event will be held at Greenville Speedway (Greenville, Mississippi), and on Saturday evening a $2,500-to-win program will be contested at Magnolia Motor Speedway (Columbus, Mississippi).
