Maupin Racing PR
GREENVILLE, Tenn. (January 30) - Jeff Maupin has announced his intentions to run for the Advance Auto Parts Thunder Series title and Rookie of the Year honors for 2008. Maupin made the announcement on the Internet radio show "Dirt Nation" on Monday night.

Maupin is coming off a comeback season, of sorts, where he won 5 feature races at Volunteer Speedway in 2007 after very little racing in 2006. He secured a ride in late 2006, taking over the ride formerly occupied by John Tweed. Maupin also had strong showings in several national events at Volunteer Speedway in his Landair Transport/TEG Enterprises/G & W Hauling and Rigging/Vic Hill Race Engines GRT Monte Carlo.

Maupin is hopeful to secure additional sponsorship that will allow him to run the full schedule. He has confirmed he will start the 2008 season running with the Advance Auto Parts Thunder Series and will stay on the tour if additional sponsorship can be secured. Maupin will start off with the season opener at the Spring Thaw 100 at Volunteer Speedway on February 29 & March 1, followed by Tazewell Speedway on March 9, Mountain Raceway on March 22, and Toccoa Speedway on March 29.

"I decided to follow the Advance Thunder Series," Maupin said. "I feel like I'm at the point now in my racing that I can go to other tracks and run well. I've had good runs with other series at tracks like Atomic and Tazewell. But we'll need more sponsorship to run the whole series. If we run well the first few races, I feel we can get the extra help we need. We have a good team and I hope someone will come forward and help us out."

With this year's AAPTS schedule featuring many races close to Maupin's home in Greeneville, Tennessee, Maupin feels like this is the right year for him to branch out.

"Since we have a lesser budget to work with than most drivers, a series close to home is something that's appealing to me," Maupin explained. "There are three race at Bulls Gap (Volunteer), two at Tazewell, and a number of others within an hour of the shop at tracks I run really well at. That helps a team like us being able to make it to these races. We can be right there with a little more help. They have a good series and I'm looking forward to running with those guys."

Anyone interested in sponsoring Maupin for the upcoming season can find out more at his web site at www.jeffmaupin.com for contact information. A partial schedule has been posted on the web site with more updates coming soon.
