By: Alex Cummings
The stars of the Carolina Clash SLMS are making their last minute adjustments as we speak in preparation for Saturday night’s race at Friendship Motor Speedway. After a few weeks off, the drivers of the Carolina Clash are foaming at the mouth to strap back into their machines and do battle at Friendship for the 40 lap, $4,000 to win feature go around.

The last appearance for the Carolina Clash was held back at the end of May with the #1 of Ricky Weeks setting fast time followed by Chris Meadows in 2nd. When the cars took to the track, Weeks set sail and wouldn’t be caught again, winning the race with the 22 of Chris Ferguson coming home in second. Third was the 20 of Dan Breuer, fourth was the 21 of Luke Roffers, and fifth was the 15 of Dean Bowen.

The race in May was also marred with two multi car accidents with one causing the 93 of Donald Bradsher to roll down the frontstretch. Scott Shirey and Chris Meadows also received heavy damage in the incident. All drivers were okay after the accidents and walked away.

So far this season after 12 races, Dennis Franklin still has control over the points with 1850. Dennis Franklin this season has been nicknamed Mr. Consistency. Dennis has yet to win a race this season but has constantly been in the top 5 race in and race out with 7 top 5’s on the season. Just 35 points behind is Dean Bowen who also leads the Rookie of the Year standings. No one has ever won the Carolina Clash Points Championship and the Rookie of the Year in the same year. Can Dean Bowen be the first ever driver to accomplish such a feat?

Running third in points is Ricky Weeks and after the last few races he has had this season, Ricky is just looking for a decent finish to help maintain his third place standing. Fourth currently is Jay Sessoms who is also second in the Rookie of the Year standings. Fifth is David Taylor who holds just a 49 point advantage over Jeff Smith in the sixth position.

Two drivers that are having career years are the 07 of Brian Ledbetter who currently sits 9th in points and the 08 of Michael Marlowe who sits 11th in points. Both drivers have attended at least 10 races this season are battling it out for that coveted top 10 in points and that special seat at the banquet.

Please make plans to come join us on Saturday, September 18th as the stars of the Carolina Clash SLMS take on the bullring at Friendship Motor Speedway located in Elkin, NC. Come watch as the best super late model drivers in the southeast square off for the $4,000 to win feature.

Safety Kleen will be awarding the Safety Kleen Hard Charger of the Race Award which will be a prize pack consisting of various products from Safety Kleen. R2C Performance is the official heat race sponsor, awarding each heat race winner with a gift certificate towards a purchase at R2C Performance.
