New Oklahoma Based Late Model Series Announced

by David Smith Jr
NICOMA PARK, Oklahoma (January 7) - After several well-attended meetings with late model drivers looking for a place to race for the 2016 race season, Brill Motor Speedway owner/promoter Mark Brill is proud to announce the Sooner Late Model Series will make its debut this season.

“I ran late models at the end of last year and several drivers expressed interest in starting a late model touring series in the state,” said Brill. “We’ve had several well attended meetings the past couple of months and decided to give it a try.”

Brill is not alone in the venture as drivers Jay Sale and Dan Marino will assist Brill in the day to day operations of the new series.

Each event will pay $750 to win and a minimum of $125 to start. “We know the pay isn’t great right now and we are just trying to get this thing going to see if we can get the interest. We want to make it affordable for both drivers and tracks to start and give it a chance to get bigger as we go along.”

Meetings have been held and what started with sixteen drivers in attendance quickly grew to twenty-six interested participants. Most of the interest has come from the Enid and Ardmore areas as there are currently no tracks running the “gladiators” on a weekly basis.  The tracks slated to host at least one SLMS event include Brill Motor Speedway, Oklahoma Sports Park (Ada) and Southern Oklahoma Speedway (Ardmore).

Official rules will be announced and posted on their official website www.soonerlatemodelseries.com sometime this weekend with officials looking to go along the lines of the Missouri based MARS DIRTcar series -with some amendments.

To obtain more information on the inaugural season for the SLMS, contact Mark Brill (405) 769-6927, Jay Sale (405) 476-9990 or Dan Marino (405) 949-6462.
